Basic Trope: A terribly arrogant person who wants constant attention from everyone around and doesn't give a damn about them.
  • Straight: Nick is a selfish, vain, perpetually glory-seeking guy. His concern about himself is as high as Everest, while concerns about other people, not nearly as much.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Nick does care about other people, but he insists that he is the first to get attention.
    • It's All About Me
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Deep down, Nick is a genuinely nice person who constantly plays up being prideful and egocentrical because it's required by society.
    • Or he plays it up because he has to cover his feeling of insecurity.
    • Nick really does not care about others, but he doesn't really think he matters more than them and fakes a big ego in order to piss them off.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied:
    • Nick is a Ridiculously Average Guy, with his huge jerkassery being the only thing distingushing him from others, and he declares himself A God Am I.
    • Nick is never seen without his hand mirror to stare at himself longingly.
  • Zig Zagged:
  • Averted: Nick is a normal Nice Guy, who is capable to show affection for those around him and doesn't suffer from morbid egocentrism.
  • Enforced: "Come on, it's about the easiest way to show him as a real jerk: make him blatantly self-centered."
  • Lampshaded: "Boy, you're so much in love with yourself... Isn't it a pity for you that you can't mate your own reflection?"
  • Invoked: Nick's father, a Supervillain or a boss of the Mafia ring, raises his son like this so that he'd make a good Overlord Jr..
  • Exploited: Mark plays a Yes-Man before Nick so as to get his trust and use it for his own plans.
  • Defied: Nick has a history of narcissistic behavior, but after an intensive therapeutic course, he develops the tools to change his behavior and become a better person, and does so.
  • Discussed: "Every time Nick opens his mouth, I have to resist the urge to make a 'jacking off' motion with my hand because that's basically what he's doing. He is the most obnoxious, pretentious, smugly self-assured human being I have ever met, and I'm pretty sure that he gets off to the sound of his own voice."
  • Conversed: "This is the last straw. Fuck Nick and fuck everyone who associates with that piece of shit." "Yikes. Those are some harsh words." "They're too kind for narcissistic scum like him. I'm sure he'll trash my name and tell anyone who will listen about how awful I am and how great he is because he isn't capable of seeing that he is the common denominator in every adverse interaction he has in his life." "Yeah, no, I don't blame you, narcissists don't change on their own and he's never going to see a therapist because he doesn't see anything wrong and thinks that it's everyone else's fault."
  • Deconstructed: Nick's revolving door of people in his life that stems from his selfish, deceitful, disingenuous, and often abusive behavior eventually digs a huge hole for him as he finds himself desperately in need of help with absolutely no one who will still give him the time of day.
  • Reconstructed: Nick finally acquiesces to the pleas of the one person in his life who still gives him some sort of benefit of the doubt, goes to therapy, and emerges a different person and begins to repair the damage he's caused.
  • Played for Drama: Nick's continual grandiosity and egocentrism cause significant tension with the people in his life, who feel invalidated as a result of his contemptuous demeanor.
  • Played for Horror: Nick's narcissism is of the malignant variety, whereby he also exhibits antisocial, paranoid, and sadistic personality traits. This easily enables him to cross the Moral Event Horizon multiple times over by committing a multitude of particularly heinous crimes.

You finished with this trifling fiddledeedee, you insignficant little insect of a human? Now let me go back to stare at myself at the main page...
