- Bob is experiencing memory loss.
- In the case of the downplayed example, Bob has been Only Known By His Nickname for so long that he forgot that he had a real name.

- Bob forgets everything about himself except for his name.
- Bob forgets other people's names, but can remember his own.
- Subverted: Bob realizes he has amnesia and wonders if he's forgotten his name. But then it turns out he remembers it.
- Double Subverted: Only it then turns out that "Bob' isn't actually his real name.

- Zig-Zagged: Bob sometimes forgets his name, and sometimes is able to remember it.
- Averted: Bob is able to remember what his name is.
