Basic Trope: At the end of a story, efforts are made to stop the plot from happening again.

  • Straight: In an episode of The Alice and Bob Show, Alice's house catches fire because she left paper towels next to the gas stove. At the end of the episode, the damage has been repaired, and she decides to keep the paper towels somewhere else, that's far away from the stove.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: The episode focuses on Alice getting injured while roller skating. At the end, she says, "I will never roller skate again... well, maybe sometimes."
  • Justified: It's completely reasonable for Alice not to want her house to catch fire again.
  • Inverted: The episode is about Alice's house catching fire. At the end, Emperor Evulz sets it on fire again.
  • Subverted: Alice's house catches fire because she left the paper towels near the stove. At the end, Alice decides to never leave paper towels by the stove again, but it doesn't work; another fire starts some other way.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied:
  • Zigzagged:
  • Averted: Alice doesn't mention anything about preventing future fires; she's just glad that the damage was repaired.
  • Enforced:
    • The executives demanded An Aesop about fire safety.
    • The show is a kids' show or a sitcom, so an episode about a fire is an Unexpectedly Dark Episode and thus might scare the viewers. As such, the executives asked the writers to add that in so that the audience is reassured that it's only a one-off.
  • Lampshaded: "And hopefully that'll be the end of that."
  • Invoked: Bob suggests to Alice that she change where she keeps the paper towels.
  • Exploited:
  • Defied:
  • Discussed: "How do we stop my house from catching fire again?"
  • Conversed: "I guess even the characters are sick of Here We Go Again! endings."
  • Implied:
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
