Basic Trope: A Mascot designed to look and act "cool".

  • Straight: Panic the Porcupine is a snarky Funny Animal that speaks in a Totally Radical manner and stars in a Platform Game where he fights the old and uncool Dr. Squareman.
  • Exaggerated: Every character in the game acts like Panic, speaking in obnoxious 90's lingo 90% of the time, even Dr. Squareman.
  • Downplayed: Panic is The Everyman most of the time, but he still drops outdated slang every now and then.
  • Justified: The way Panic acts is the norm of his universe, which is supposed to parody The '90s and its trends.
  • Inverted: Panic is an old-fashioned nerd who fights the Badbutt Dr. Squareman.
  • Subverted: Panic the Porcupine is marketed as a cool character, but ends up being quite nerdy and uncool in the game proper.
  • Double Subverted: For the first ten minutes anyway. He eventually gets superpowered and adopts a edgy, Totally Radical persona before the second level.
  • Parodied: Panic is a 90's Disco Dan living on a modern world that's two decades ahead of him. Other characters keep calling him a hipster.
  • Zig Zagged: Panic's attitude actually comes from a Split Personality. The real Panic is an introverted nerd who sometimes switches to "Cool Panic" during gameplay.
  • Averted: Panic is a human and simply The Everyman.
  • Enforced: Other companies notice the popularity of Panic the Porcupine and try to push "cool" mascots of their own.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Panic is just trying to impress his girlfriend Rose May, who wants him to have a bit more of an attitude.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Panic refuses to act like a cool dude, as he finds it embarrassing.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Man, this Panic character would fit right at home in the 90's."
  • Deconstructed: Panic tries too hard to win over the approval of his fans, and becomes a laughing stock to them. Realizing that he's now a mockery to them, he either gives up being a hero altogether, or plays up his sordid reputation to keep his followers supporting him.
  • Reconstructed: Panic understands that what makes him "cool" isn't actually his attitude, but his desire for justice; since he combats injustice at the hands of invokedLawful Evil figures such as Dr. Squareman, his attitude comes across as Chaotic Good rebelliousness. This makes his personality more natural, and his fans appreciate his heroic actions in spite of - not because of - said personality.
