Basic Trope: A Strong and Skilled character who avoids using violence unless it's really necessary.
- Straight: Bob is an expert in martial arts but tries to avoid fighting others at any cost.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob is an almighty Physical God, but at the brink of death, he'll just delete the enemy.
- The Perfect Pacifist People who don't even have weapons... Well, their mining exoskeletons, arc welders, mining lasers, and myriad of advanced industrial tools weren't meant to kill people, but anyone stupid enough to try to attack them will soon learn that an arc welder that can weld ship grade alloys could *also* be used to turn them to ash in a heartbeat, which they will do all the while apologizing for the conflict going this far.
- Downplayed: Bob doesn't like fighting, but has no issue hitting first if the enemies keep asking for it.
- Justified:
- Bob is too strong for his own good and fears he might end up accidentally killing someone.
- Bob belongs to a group that looks down or outright forbids violence, unless it's extremely necessary.
- Bob at some point made a promise to a loved one that he wouldn't fight anymore.
- Bob is a Blood Knight who stopped when he realised his addiction was going too far, and ultimately chose a quieter, more productive life as a peacemaker. However, he still remembers his training and will act to defend himself and others should his foes prove unable to be reasoned with.
- Bob is an All-Loving Hero.
- Bob realizes that in many situations reacting with violence first makes things worse and the opportunity for everyone to walk away unscathed is thrown away immediately. However, never resorting to violence to stop an injustice means the injustice continues. Bob will give peace a genuine chance first, at least until he can gather the information he needs before determining whether to resort to violence, because escalating up to violence is easier than trying to back down after blood has been shed.
- Inverted: Bob can't land a hit to save his life but loves to pick fights with everyone, even people that he knows are far stronger than him.
- Subverted: Bob is a psychopath, he uses a pacifist façade to catch people off guard.
- Double Subverted: But then he sees how his actions hurt people, so he became a pacifist for real in his attempt to become The Atoner.
- Parodied: Everybody, even little kids, picks on Bob because they know he won't do anything.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob only deals with people he deems dangerous while ignoring the weaker ones.
- Averted: Bob is always ready to fight with anyone.
- Enforced: "Everybody likes strong heroes, but we need to show him solving problems in any way that doesn't involve harming others to avoid glorifying violence."
- Lampshaded: "Bob, why do you waste time practising martial arts if you aren't going to use that knowledge?"
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited:
- Defied: Bob soon discovers that taking the peaceful route has done more harm than good, so he drops the pacifism and starts applying his fighting skills more frequently.
- Discussed: "I give peace a chance, Alice. But those chances aren't indefinite."
- Conversed: ???
