Basic Trope: Two characters are locked in a room, and start to get along.

  • Straight: Bob and Alice hate each other, but after being locked in a room, they start to get along.
  • Exaggerated: Bob and Alice want to kill each other, but after being locked in a room for months, they're BFFs.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob and Alice don't know each other that well, but after being locked in a room, they're on better terms.
    • Bob and Alice hate each other, but after being locked in a room, they seem indifferent.
  • Justified:
    • Their mutual dislike was based on several misunderstandings, which they're able to clear up in the room.
    • There was nothing else to do but talk with each other to pass the time, so they both realized the other wasn't as bad as they seemed and started to bond.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob and Alice are good friends, until they're locked in a room. Then they become enemies.
    • Bob and Alice work in close proximity, and it's only after they're apart that they start to respect one another.
  • Subverted: Bob and Alice hate each other. After being locked in a room...they still hate each other.
  • Double Subverted: ...but they hate each other less.
  • Parodied:
    • Bob and Alice each want to tear the other's throat out. They're locked in the room for about 15 seconds, but after getting out, they're planning their wedding.
    • Their relationship diametrically flips each time they're locked in a room together.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Nobody is locked in a room.
    • When the door slams shut, Bob and Alice just go to opposite sides of the room until it's opened.
  • Enforced: Executive Meddling dictates that Alice and Bob become a couple, so the writers use this trope to make them more friendly.
  • Lampshaded: "Bob and Alice are stuck in the room? OK, they'll just reach an understanding then."
  • Invoked: Their mutual friends are sick of the bickering, so their friends conspire to get them stuck in a room.
  • Exploited: One or both of them attempts to use the close proximity to kill the other.
  • Defied: "No. I'm not going to talk to you. Shut up and go over there until we get rescued."
  • Discussed: (continued from Defied) "Alright, I'm over here, and you don't have to talk to me. ...But before I shut up, I don't think we're ever gonna feel better until we get this whole thing off our chests. So if we're gonna be stuck in here, then this might as well be a good time to do it."
  • Conversed: ???
