Basic Trope: An abnormally powerful special move available after a condition has been fulfilled, typically on dealing or taking a threshold of damage.

  • Straight: Bob can use Mighty Cleave after taking half of his health as damage, which deals triple standard attack damage to each enemy.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob can use Doomsday-mageddon when he has exactly 1 health left, which instantly kills each enemy and deals ten times standard attack damage to all affected enemies that are immune to instant death.
    • Every playable character has a conditional special move with a unique trigger. Even the mooks!
  • Downplayed: Bob can use Sword Beam after taking a tenth of his health as damage, which has increased combat initiative and deals double standard damage to a single target.
  • Justified: Bob gets stronger under intense pressure.
    • Bob stores kinetic energy from each attack which is released as his limit break.
  • Inverted: Emperor Evulz can use Meteor Volley at any point except after he takes half of his health as damage.
  • Subverted: Bob uses Mighty Cleave... but it only does as much damage as a regular attack.
  • Double Subverted: ...but it does triple normal damage 1 turn later.
  • Parodied: Unable to break a wall, Bob rams his face into it until he takes enough damage to trigger Mighty Cleave, which he uses to demolish it.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob uses Mighty Cleave... but it only does as much damage as a regular attack... until it does triple damage a turn later... but that was another one of his skills... which activated when he used his Limit Break.
  • Averted: Nobody has a Limit Break.
  • Enforced: "We need to showcase that the Underdogs Never Lose, and Rule of Cool is great, so let's give Bob a desperation Attack!"
  • Lampshaded: "Breaking my limits!"
  • Invoked: A loading scrren/Tutorial has the text "When Bob's HP drops to under 50%, something will happen!"
  • Exploited: Bob hits himself to trigger his Limit Break. He also never drinks Health Potions, unless it's really necessary.
  • Defied: Bob constantly keeps his health above 50% so as to avoid triggering his Limit Break.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Bob suffers a concussion from all the damage he takes to use his Limit Break.
    • Limit isn't kept between battles. As a result, against weak enemies it's useless or redundant, and against stronger enemies he'd be killed before the bar fills, making the whole affair Awesomebut Impractical.
  • Reconstructed: Bob's limit break has a healing component in addition to the damage, allowing him to immediately start building limit again.
    • The limit break is useful as an ace in the hole against an opponent who is his near-equal...such as his rival Dave.
