Basic Trope: Upon defeat, an enemy uses a powerful, potentially lethal attack.
- Straight: Upon being defeated by the heroes, Lord Skull casts Infernal Rain, a spell that is sure to wipe the heroes out if they haven't been keeping their HP high.
- Exaggerated: Upon defeat, Lord Skull uses a One-Hit KO move.
- Downplayed: Upon defeat, Lord Skull randomly launches one of his attacks.
- Justified: He's attempting a Taking You with Me.
- Inverted: Upon defeat, Lord Skull heals the heroes.
- Subverted:
- Lord Skull tries to cast the spell, but then he realizes he doesn't even know it.
- Lord Skull casts Infernal Rain. But after the player survives it, Lord Skull gains a second wind and the true final phase of the fight begins.
- Double Subverted: Instead, he uses its even stronger counterpart: Cataclysm.
- Parodied: The enemy explodes in such a huge ball of fire that a chunk of the earth goes flying away that hits another planet in a thousand years, aliens from across the galaxy all look up as they hear a huge explosion, and the heroes are just a bit sooty.
- Zig-Zagged: Lord Skull isn't done after casting Infernal Rain. He goes for Cataclysm, which succeeds only if the player can't kill him before he finishes casting. Then, he tries one last-ditch Infernal Rain, only to collapse before he can cast it.
- Averted: Lord Skull doesn't use a spell upon defeat.
- Enforced: The developers wanted to make sure that Lord Skull taught players to strategize.
- Lampshaded: "How did Lord Skull use that spell effectively on the verge of death?"
- Invoked: Lord Skull learns Agony Burst, a spell designed to deal extreme damage while the user is near death.
- Exploited: The enemy explodes... and heals you because you equipped an element absorbing item before the fight.
- Defied: Lord Skull opens up with Infernal Rain, then goes for the throat while the heroes are weakened.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: Lord Skull is barely alive at this point, so he struggles to muster the strength and focus to cast Infernal Rain when he is in so much pain.
- Reconstructed: But Reflect doesn't require the same prep time and it can easily kill the heroes with their own finishing move.
