Go To

Basic Trope: A character's fondness for cats is portrayed as a positive quality.

  • Straight: Alice, the Nice Girl, is shown to own a cat.
  • Exaggerated: The All-Loving Hero Alice owns multiple cats and gives each and every one of them the best life possible.
    • Several good characters are shown to love cats.
  • Downplayed: While Alice may not have the best attitude, her fondness for cats shows that she is a good person.
  • Justified: Alice, for whatever reason, can't interact with other people normally but is still a kind person, so she takes to felines instead.
  • Inverted:
    • The Alpha Bitch Alice is shown to own a cat.
    • The Nice Girl Alice is shown to hate cats.
    • While Alice doesn't mind cats, she prefers dogs instead.
  • Subverted: When Alice goes to the animal shelter to adopt a pet, she stops in front of the cat section... before walking to a different section.
  • Double Subverted: She comes back shortly after to adopt a cat.
  • Parodied: As soon as Alice admits to liking cats, she immediately does a Heel–Face Turn into the sweetest person imaginable.
  • Zigzagged: While Alice is introduced as a Jerkass, her next scene has her play with a cat. It then turns out that she was only catsitting for money, or that's what she claims... her next appearances show her with that same cat and she eventually Takes a Level in Kindness.
  • Averted: Alice does not own pets.
  • Enforced: The writer is a cat lover and would like to see more cat lovers that aren't Crazy Cat Ladies.
  • Lampshaded: "Alice is really sweet to everyone, including her cat!"
  • Invoked: Alice decides to adopt a cat after hearing that cat owners are perceived as nicer.
  • Exploited: The Bitch in Sheep's Clothing Alice adopts a cat to add to her Nice Girl facade.
  • Defied: "No thanks, I don't have the time to take care of a cat."
  • Discussed: "Y'know, even if Alice doesn't have the best attitude, she does seem nice to that cat. Is that what she's really like?"
  • Conversed: "It's nice seeing a character that likes cats but isn't portrayed as super crazy or evil."
  • Implied: While Alice isn't shown owning pets, she's seen smiling when looking at cats.
  • Deconstructed: Despite Alice's kind and sociable nature, the Crazy Cat Lady stereotype persists and she's seen as a social outcast.
  • Reconstructed: Alice finds friends that appreciates her pet cat.
  • Played for Laughs: While Alice is a kind woman, she's also very enthusiastic about her cats; Hilarity Ensues as she tries to show others that no, she is not a Crazy Cat Lady.
  • Played for Drama: Alice's social skills are basically nonexistent despite her kindness, and she turns to her beloved pet cat for companionship.

Do you wanna see my pet cat? He's very lovely!
