Basic Trope: A male character who is hyperactive.

  • Straight: Bob is a hyperactive young male, often running around and talking quickly.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is hyperactive even if he gets some rest.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob can control his energy, but he rarely gets tired and always has something to say.
    • Sometimes Bob is hyperactive, but at other times, he is not.
  • Justified:
    • Bob's diet contains large amounts of caffeine.
    • Bob is an extroverted Pollyanna.
  • Inverted: Bob's an Emotionless Boy.
  • Gender-Inverted: Alice is a Genki Girl.
  • Subverted: At first glance, Bob seems very excitable and hyperactive, but it's really a front for a cynical Deadpan Snarker.
  • Double Subverted: ...Except that the cynical side of Bob was also an act, and Bob's true personality is even more hyperactive than before.
  • Parodied: Alice offers Bob some coffee. This causes Bob to run at insanely fast speeds.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob seems very hyperactive when you first meet him, but when he is around friends, he relaxes and becomes less crazy. But then when you get really close to him, he becomes hyper again. But this is actually him panicking due to his socially awkward disposition, which he soon gets over.
  • Averted: Bob remains calm and cool-headed, even in stressful situations.
  • Enforced: "Alright, we need a hyperactive male character to appeal to the female audience."
  • Lampshaded:
    • "Bob, you really need to lay off the Red Bull."
    • "Don't talk to that Bob guy: he's seriously loud."
    • "Bob seems like he could run fast enough to avoid being caught by those mooks."
  • Invoked:
    • Bob decides to act cute and hyper.
    • Bob begins a rigorous diet of coffee and energy drinks, causing him to become hyper.
  • Exploited: Someone needs Bob to run really fast someplace...so they give him caffeine.
  • Defied: Bob avoids caffeine.
  • Discussed: "Alice seems to like those cutesy-looking, hyper guys. Maybe she'd notice me if I started acting like that?"
  • Conversed: "There's always some kind of really chirpy guy in these shows."
  • Deconstructed: Bob gets bullied for his perceived lack of manliness. People get fed up with his hyperactivity, being unable to keep up with him.
