Playing With / Interrupted by the End

Go To

Basic Trope: A character is interrupted by finishing their sentence because they were cut off by the work ending.

  • Straight: At the end of an episode of Alice and Bob, Alice is about to reveal the truth behind the oft-mentioned Noodle Incident, but only gets to say "And the Noodle Incident was about-" before the episode ends.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice trying to say something only for the episode to suddenly end before she can finish her sentence is a Once an Episode occurrence.
    • The episode ends very prematurely just so that Alice won't reveal the secret behind the Noodle Incident.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice gets to tell some of the basics about the Noodle Incident, but several details are still cut off by the ending.
    • Rather than being cut off by the episode ending, Alice is cut off by switching to another scene.
  • Justified: The characters are aware that they're in a TV show, and want the Noodle Incident to remain a secret, so they decide to roll credits before anyone can share the details.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice is about to say something, but is cut off by the opening credits.
    • The ending is cut off by Alice saying something.
  • Subverted: The Noodle Incident is later resolved in The Stinger, or the beginning of the next episode.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: The episode repeatedly goes back and forth with whether or not it wants Alice to finish her sentence at the end.
  • Averted: Alice doesn't get cut off by the episode ending.
  • Enforced:
    • If Curse Cut Short also applies, this could be a way to avoid having Alice actually swear.
    • The creators want the Noodle Incident to be kept a secret.
    • The creators want to incentivize the viewers to watch the next episode.
  • Lampshaded: "I guess this is the part where the show ends before I can fin-"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alice interrupts the end credits by coming through and shouting "I'm not done yet!"
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "I guess we'll never know what Alice wanted to say."
