Basic Trope: Blue eyes used to emphasize a character's innocence or naivete.

  • Straight: Alice is The Ingenue and is noted to have wide, trusting, innocent blue eyes.
  • Exaggerated: Alice is a Purity Sue with the most beautiful blue eyes in the world.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice is noted to have blue eyes, and is just a bit more naive than everyone else.
    • Alice has blue eyes and is the villain, but is fairly polite and friendly.
    • Alice is the most innocent of the group, but her eyes aren’t blue, but they are a color that is mixed with blue, like green, purple or indigo.
    • Alice is commonly depicted with blue eyes in promotional material and fanart, but in the actual story she lacks them.
  • Justified: Blue-eyed children are rare in the setting and seen as precious, so they are sheltered growing up.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Alice is actually a villain.
    • Alice is wearing colored contacts.
    • Alice is more jaded and cynical than she initially appears.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Alice may be evil, but she's still the most trusting and naive of the villains.
    • Those colored contacts actually turn out to be not that far from her original eye color, which is more of a blue-green.
    • Alice Took a Level in Idealism, and ends the story as one of the most idealistic characters.
  • Parodied: Whenever Alice widens her eyes and bats her lashes, Love Bubbles and Woodland Creatures appear around her.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • No one has blue eyes.
    • Eye color doesn't particularly signify innocence.
  • Enforced: "We need a way to show Alice is innocent" "Give her blue eyes"
  • Lampshaded: "Your blue eyes are so sweet-looking!"
  • Invoked:
    • Alice's mother is a pious blue-eyed woman who wanted to raise a pure-looking daughter, so she made sure Alice's father had blue eyes so Alice would inherit them.
    • Alice is The Ingenue, but gets blue contacts to look more innocent.
  • Exploited: Alice uses her blue eyes to look innocent and unassuming to lure someone into a false sense of complacency. Then she murders them!
  • Defied: Alice refuses to act innocent or goody-goody just because of her eye color.
  • Discussed: "Your eyes are so blue, just like the naive heroines in movies!"
  • Conversed: "You ever wonder why the naive ones always have blue eyes?"
  • Implied: Alice is The Ingenue but her eye color is never described. Her parents both have blue eyes, however.
  • Played For Laughs: Alice gets out of all kinds of ridiculous trouble just by widening her eyes slightly.
  • Played For Drama: Alice goes through a Trauma Conga Line. At first, the hopefulness in her blue eyes is emphasized. By the end, it's noted that there's no joy or innocence left in her blue eyes.
