Basic Trope: Having blue-grey eyes means that a character is cool (as in awesome), stoic (as in "cold"), and/or has ice powers.
- Straight:
- Alice has pale blue, greyish eyes and she's a talented Action Girl.
- Bob is very stoic, never expressing any emotion unless something is amiss. He also has pale blue eyes.
- Carol was born with pale blue eyes and the ability to freeze water.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice has blue-grey eyes and is a Emotionless Girl, has ice powers, and is a talented Action Girl.
- Alice is the only one with blue-grey eyes and is also an extremely talented action girl in a world of Non-Action Guy's and gals.
- Bob has blue-grey eyes and actually has no emotions at all.
- Carol has blue-grey eyes and is practically omnipotent but only when it comes to ice.
- Everyone who has blue eyes is either awesome, stoic, An Ice Person, or a combination.
- Downplayed:
- Alice, Bob, and Carol have these traits in addition to regular blue eyes.
- Alice only does action stuff on occasion, but when she does it's awesome.
- It's not that unusual for Bob to express emotion, but he's notably more serious than the other characters.
- Carol's ice powers are very weak.
- Alice, Bob, and Carol embody this trope, but there are plenty of normal people with blue-grey eyes too.
- Justified:
- Alice and Bob just had a genetic trait that happened to coincide with their personalities.
- Carol's blue-grey eyes were caused by the same thing that caused her powers.
- Inverted:
- Alice is inept and boring.
- Bob is expressive.
- Carol has fire powers.
- Subverted:
- Alice appears to be an action girl, but it turns out that she was just daydreaming.
- "Bob" appears stoic, but turns out to be an impostor.
- Carol appears to have ice powers, but it turns out that it was really Dave, who has brown eyes, who froze the water.
- Double Subverted:
- She later becomes an action girl.
- The real Bob is just as stoic as the fake one.
- Dave turns out to actually have blue-grey eyes and be wearing red contacts, or it turns out that Carol has ice powers too.
- Emily has blue-grey eyes and really is cool/stoic/an ice person.
- Parodied: Stereotypical "cool kid" bullies judge people by whether or not they have blue-grey eyes.
- Zigzagged:
- Some characters with blue-grey eyes follow one or more of these three traits, some do not.
- Alice, Bob, and/or Carol's eyes keep changing colour.
- It's hard to tell if Carol really does have ice powers, if Alice really is an action girl, or if Bob really is a stoic.
- Averted: Nobody's eyes look like this.
- Enforced: The writers wanted to add this in as Foreshadowing.
- Lampshaded:
- "My eyes take 'cool' to another level."
- "I know I'm serious and have blue eyes, but don't call me 'cold', OK?"
- "My eyes are as icy as my powers!"
- Invoked:
- Alice deliberately becomes an action hero so that people will remember her as "the heroine with the cool blue eyes".
- Bob deliberately refrains from expressing emotion.
- Franklin blesses Carol with ice powers while she's still in utero and says, "In addition, she will grow up with blue-grey eyes."
- Exploited:
- Defied:
- Alice refuses to be an action hero.
- Bob refuses to act stoically.
- When Franklin is blessing the fetus that is to become Carol with ice powers, he specifies that she will not have blue eyes.
- Discussed: "I wish my eyes were greyish-blue, then I'd be so much cooler and might even have powers!".
- Conversed: "That character's got grey-blue eyes. What's to bet she's either a stoic, has ice powers, or is just plain awesome?"
- Implied:
- Alice has eyes like these and is implied to have done something awesome.
- Carol sometimes seems to have ice powers, but it's only implied.
- Alice, Bob, and/or Carol have Opaque Nerd Glasses but are said to have blue-grey eyes.
- Played for Laughs:
- Bob is Comically Serious.
- Carol uses her ice powers to do silly things.
- Played for Drama: This overlaps with Creepy Blue Eyes.
