Basic trope: Someone who drinks an alcoholic beverage after a crazy event.

  • Straight: Alice downs a glass of beer after witnessing a terrible car crash.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice downs the entire bottle of vodka in response to the car crash.
    • After witnessing an eight-car pile-up, Alice raids the local ABC store.
    • Alice downs three whole barrels worth of booze after witnessing an alien invasion.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice takes a sip of brandy after being held up in traffic for a long time.
    • After being given the bad news, Alice stops sipping her cocktail and starts chugging it.
  • Justified: Alcohol is classified as a depressant, which means that it can calm people down, and Alice knows that.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice downs a beer before an event she expects will be crazy.
    • Alice downs a glass of water after the crazy event.
    • She downs the glass of water before the event.
    • She downs the beer after a calm event.
    • She downs the beer before the calm event.
    • She downs a glass of water after the calm event.
    • She downs the glass of water before the calm event.
  • Subverted: Alice Title Drops the trope... and then goes to the fridge and pours herself a cup of water, which she downs as though it were a shot.
  • Double Subverted: Bob notes this, making Alice down a glass of wine in exasperation.
  • Parodied:
    • Alice downs alcoholic drinks at the slightest sign of something weird.
    • Alice goes through all of the motions standard to this trope with a G-Rated Drug.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice sometimes drinks something alcoholic after a crazy event, depending on how much the event affected her personally and how crazy it was.
  • Averted: Alice does not drink alcoholic drinks after getting into a crazy situation.
  • Enforced: "We have to show how done Alice is with the goings on. Let's have her grab Charlie's beer and drink it in one go."
  • Lampshaded: "You'd think people would know better than to drink so much after such a crazy event. They usually come in succession."
  • Implied: Alice is often found drunk, muttering about the events of the day before.
  • Defied:
    • "No, I am not going to accept that offer of a cocktail, because I am sane and I would like to stay that way."
    • "It does not matter how much you think it's justified, I see your hand anywhere near that hip flask during work hours and I'm going to fire you and burn you hard."
  • Deconstructed:
    • Alice's tendency to deal with emotional stress through alcohol leads to alcoholism, which leads to Alcohol-Induced Idiocy, which leads to more stress through the situations her alcoholism created/exacerbated, which leads to more drinking, which leads to more idiotic moments…
    • A sip of a gallon, liquid bravery or debauchery, someone catches Alice drinking on the job and she gets the book thrown at her for inappropriate conduct. It's right there on the rules that you just don't do it, no matter if it was a hairsbreadth away from the end of the world five minutes ago.
  • Played For Drama: Alice becomes an alcoholic from the sheer number of crazy things that happen to her.
