Go To

Basic Trope: Hating a certain day of the week.

  • Straight: Alice hates Mondays.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Mondays are Alice's Berserk Button and she's always angry on them.
    • Alice hates Mondays, Sundays and Wednesdays.
    • Most or all the characters hate Monday.
  • Downplayed: Alice is only slightly annoyed by Monday.
  • Justified:
    • Monday is when the work week starts and Alice is a Lazy Bum, has a Bad Boss, hates her job, or some combination thereof.
    • Alice is a schoolgirl and hates having to go back to school on Monday because she's lazy, she has a Sadist Teacher, or she doesn't like school due to the trope Everybody Hates Mathematics being in play.
    • Alice is superstitious about Mondays as she seems to be the Butt-Monkey on Mondays in particular.
    • Alice is remembering a bad Noodle Incident that took place on a Monday.
  • Inverted: Monday is Alice's favourite day of the week.
  • Subverted: Alice says "I hate Monday," but it turned out she was hating on someone with a "Day of the Week" Name Monday.
  • Double Subverted: But she hates Fridays.
  • Parodied:
    • When Alice says, "I hate Mondays," someone called Monday gets offended.
    • Alice says she likes every day except days whose names end in y.
    • Alice is travelling over the International Date Line. This can go four ways:
      • It's Monday in North America and she's out of sorts, then she gets to Asia where it's already Tuesday and she relaxes.
      • It's Sunday in North America and she's calm, then she gets to Asia where it's already Monday and she goes tense.
      • It's Monday in Asia and she's out of sorts, then she gets to North America where it's still Sunday and she relaxes.
      • It's Tuesday in Asia and she's fine, then she gets to North America where it's still Monday and she gets worried.
  • Averted: Alice doesn't mind any days of the week.
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice hates Monday but Bob likes it, while Carol is indifferent to it. Alice, Bob, and Carol also have Tuesday, Monday, and Friday as their respective favourite weekdays, while Bob and Carol hate Sunday and Thursday respectively.
  • Enforced: "Seeing as Alice has a Bad Boss, she must hate Mondays 'cause that's the day she has to go back to face her boss."
  • Lampshaded: "Why do you hate Mondays so much, Alice?"
  • Invoked: Alice's coworker Dave is The Bully and only bullies her on Monday to make her hate the day.
  • Exploited: Creatures who feed on negativity feed on Alice's grumpiness on Monday.
  • Defied:
    • Alice treats each Monday like any other day.
    • Alice makes herself think more and happier thoughts on Monday than any other day.
  • Discussed: "Why do some people hate certain days so much?"
  • Conversed: "Why do some characters hate certain days so much?"
  • Implied: Alice seems more negative on Mondays.
  • Deconstructed: Alice is unproductive every Monday because her negative attitude towards it clouds her ability to do anything meaningful.
  • Reconstructed: Alice gets help and her attitude toward Monday improves.
  • Played for Laughs: Alice's complaining about Monday becomes a Running Gag.
  • Played for Drama: Alice undergoes a Humiliation Conga and then dies on a Monday.
  • Played for Horror: A Serial Killer, Implacable Man, Eldritch Abomination, or some combination thereof stalks Alice on a Monday.
