Basic Trope: A female character has a disproportionately small waist and large hips.

  • Straight: Alice is a woman who has a small waistline and large hips.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice is a literal stick figure above the waist. Below the waist, she's downright obese.
    • Alice’s hips are so massive she must go bottomless everywhere, as no piece of bottomwear can contain them.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice is a woman whose waist isn't that small, but her hips are slightly wider than it is.
    • Alice's waist isn't ridiculously small and hips aren't huge. But when combined, her hips are disproportionately big.
    • The only reason Alice's hips are unrealistically big in proportion to her waist is because her waist is ridiculously small.
    • Alice has an average-sized waist, but she also has absurdly large hips that make her waist look small in comparison.
  • Justified:
    • Alice was born with large hips.
    • Alice does plenty of exercising.
    • Alice eats foods that go directly straight to her hips and thighs.
    • Alice is a shapeshifter and chooses to make her hips unusually large.
    • Alice is not a Terran but a Human Alien, and this is normal for her species.
    • Alice's hips widened after having lots of kids.
  • Inverted:
  • Gender-Inverted: Bob is a man with a small waistline and large hips.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice is wearing padding to make hips look bigger than they actually are.
    • Alice is wearing a girdle, so that she can have smaller waistline.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Her waistline and hips are still rather disproportionate.
    • Alice's waistline is already quite small, even without a girdle.
  • Parodied:
    • Alice's hips are always bumping into stuff and knocking stuff over.
    • Alice's hips are treated like a pair of large breasts and are the butt of a lot of breast-related jokes. She even has to resort to telling men "My Eyes Are Up Here."
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice's hips are larger than average, but her waistline's size fluctuates as she gains and loses weight.
  • Averted:
    • Alice doesn't have large hips.
    • Alice has realistic proportions, pear-shaped or not.
    • Alice has unrealistically large hips. But instead of an exaggerated pear shape, she has an Impossible Hourglass Figure or a diamond-shaped body.note
  • Enforced: A character designer wants to increase the rate of Fanservice by drawing a female character's large hips.
  • Lampshaded: "Man, Alice has a nice set of hips."
  • Invoked: Alice has surgery to get bigger hips.
  • Exploited:
  • Defied: Alice notices her hips are a little wide, gets self-conscious, and goes on a diet so she doesn't get any bigger.
  • Discussed: "What did Alice eat to get such shapely hips?"
  • Conversed: "I love how, in the cartoons, female characters always have small waist and wide hips."
  • Implied: Alice is The Ghost, but other characters find her clothes in one episode. She wears a size 4 shirt, but a size 14 pair of jeans.
  • Deconstructed: Alice struggles to find pants that fit her or fit into seats at the theater, leaving her frequently embarrassed. If men aren't making fun of her for this, they're staring lustfully at her, embarrassing her further.
  • Reconstructed: Alice hires a tailor who can tailor pants that fit her large hips.
