Basic Trope: A character combines acrobatics and martial arts with gunplay as a form of combat.

  • Straight: Bob gets into a gunfight and instead of just shooting the bad guys, does a lot of flips and jumps while somehow never missing.
  • Exaggerated: Bob flips into the air, twisting his body in ways that should not be humanly possible while shooting a few dozen mooks from a hundred yards in a single second.
  • Downplayed: Bob makes a few jumps and tumbles during the gunfight but nothing too fancy.
  • Justified: Bob is a superhuman that can shoot accurately while flipping around. It's a good way to avoid getting shot and confuses the bad guys, so he utilizes it in his fights.
  • Inverted: Bob stays perfectly still and picks off the bad guys, one-by-one as they fly around him.
  • Subverted: Bob literally leaps into battle with a giant flip but once he lands, he simply opens fire and doesn't move around much...
  • Double Subverted: ... And as the bad guys mount a defense, Bob realizes he needs to start moving around if he expects to live so he starts flipping around again to avoid getting shot.
  • Parodied: Bob jumps into the air and makes several ridiculous flips, spins, and trick shots in every direction... and hits nothing.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob stays still and starts picking off the bad guys but they eventually surround him so he uses acrobatics to retreat. Once he is at a safe distance, he opens fire again. He soon realizes that combining his gun and martial arts skills will get him out alive. But then the bad guys surrender and we never learn if he could pull it off or not.
  • Averted: Bob stays mostly in one place and fires his gun.
  • Enforced: The writers use this trope because of Rule of Cool.
  • Lampshaded: "You're a good shot but is there really a point to all that hopping around?"
  • Invoked: Bob recieves Training from Hell, which includes this trope. His mentor knows that, despite how unnecessary it appears, it is effective.
  • Exploited: Bob creates this fighting style, knowing that few people would try it or have a defense for it.
  • Defied: Bob can do this but prefers to duck behind some cover and fire carefully aimed shots for pragmatic reasons.
  • Discussed: Bob and Alice argue about the effectiveness of this trope in a fight.
  • Conversed:
"I hate it when people fly around while shooting guns in movies. It is so unrealistic."
    "Yeah, but it looks cool!"
  • Deconstructed: Bob does a few sommersaults in the middle of a gunfight and is promptly shot in the chest...
  • Reconstructed: ... But this was a Batman Gambit. He had a bulletproof vest and was just luring the bad guys to come out to confirm the kill. Once they get close, he springs into action and takes them out, his martial arts and handguns proving effective at close range.
    • Luckily for him, his Super-Reflexes are what makes the Gun Fu effective in the first place, allowing him to combine precise gunfire with his close-range dodging powers.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob flips around in a gunfight, only for the bad guys to stop and ask What the Fu Are You Doing?
  • Played For Drama: During Bob's Roaring Rampage of Revenge, he kills his wife's killers in a brutal and quick fashion using a combination of martial arts and gunplay.
