Basic Trope: A religious leader who is also a good person.

  • Straight: Father Bob is good man who uses his position to help his community and the people within it.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is a literal saint, able to preform miracles. When he dies he is even canonized by his Church.
  • Downplayed: Father Bob is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold; while not the friendliest of men, he'd still move Heaven and Earth to protect his flock.
  • Justified:
    • Bob follows a religion with tenets that encourage compassion, mercy, and love for fellow humans.
    • Bob was a good person first, and later felt called to Priesthood.
  • Inverted: Sinister Minister.
  • Subverted: Bob seems like a good man, but then it's discovered that three years ago he murdered a fellow Priest in cold blood.
  • Double Subverted: Bob's murder victim was a Pedophile Priest, and Bob killed him to protect the children in the parish and to punish the man for his sins.
  • Parodied: The story has a cast of jerkasses, and they all loathe Bob because he's so good - he makes them all look bad by comparison. When he finds out he forgives them all … much to their growing frustration.
  • Zig-Zagged: Father Bob at first seems like a good person, but then he gets accused of embezzling money from the Church. However then it turns out that the church caretaker was the real thief and Bob is innocent. But then he gets caught kissing Alice and is accused of breaking his vow of celibacy by having a secret family, but when the person who caught him goes to the Bishop they learn that a special exemption was made for Bob because he converted from a denomination that allows its Priests to marry. Then Bob admits to a friend he killed thirty people as a younger man … but that's because he was a soldier before he became a Priest.
  • Averted: There are no religious leaders in the story.
  • Enforced: The author wants to write a Religious Horror story, and decides that a benevolent cleric will make a good protagonist or supporting character for that particular story.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: An honest Bishop interviews all candidates before appointing them to a Parish, to make sure only people of pure hearts are selected.
  • Exploited: A con artist targets Father Bob because he knows he can exploit Bob's good nature with a sob story and skillfully woven glurge.
  • Defied: A corrupt Bishop decides not to appoint Bob to a parish specifically because he feared a true believer like Bob would be a thorn in his side.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
