Basic Trope: A character who is well-known for being gassy.

  • Straight: Bob has the tendency to burp and fart a lot.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob burps and farts slightly more than everyone else.
    • In a cast where nobody else burps and farts, Bob is the only one who has actually done it a couple times.
  • Justified:
    • Bob is a Big Eater.
    • Bob has a poor diet.
    • Bob consumes a lot of gas-causing foods like beans, broccoli, and soda.
    • Bob has Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Crohn's Disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or some other chronic illness where gas is a symptom.
    • Bob is lactose intolerant and can't say no to dairy.
  • Inverted: Bob never burps or farts, but everyone else does occasionally.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob walks into a room and says, "Gassy guy, coming through." However, he neither burps nor farts even once.
    • Bob stinks and people assume it's because he's passing gas, but it's actually because he forgot to shower.
    • A loud fart is heard from Bob during a dinner scene, but then it's revealed it's because Alice put a whoopee cushion on his chair.
  • Double Subverted: Bob burps and/or farts after he has left the room. Or alternatively, he is farting, but it’s of the silent but deadly variety.
  • Parodied: Bob is a skunk.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob burps a lot, but never farts.
    • Alternatively, Bob farts a lot, but never burps.
  • Averted:
    • There is no farting or burping in the show.
    • Bob farts and burps like a normal person occasionally, but it's not used as a joke nor does it define his character.
  • Enforced: "None of these characters are funny anymore. Let's add a gassy guy to the cast."
  • Lampshaded:
    • "This guy burps and farts a lot. He should seriously see a doctor."
    • "Someone has been eating a lot of burritos."
  • Invoked: "Hey, Alice, pull my finger."
  • Exploited: Bob is the undefeated burping champion.
  • Defied:
    • Bob is worried that he might be ill, and sees a doctor about his gassiness.
    • Bob tries anti-gas medicine in hopes of preventing his farting.
  • Discussed: "There's no way Bob is the perfect friend you say he is, Charles. There must be a catch. Is he a gassy guy?" "No. As far as I can tell, he doesn't have a 'catch' at all."
  • Conversed: "I'm sure the Moral Guardians would want to cancel the show because Bob is gassy."
  • Implied: No one wants to be in Bob's presence.
  • Deconstructed: No one wants to be Bob's friend because he farts so much.
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played For Laughs:
    • Bob can fart songs.
    • Bob farts so loud that it can be heard from space.
  • Played For Drama: No one can stand to be around Bob, which makes a rather lonely and depressed individual.
  • Untwisted: Bob goes to a dinner. He doesn't start burping and farting until the dinner ends.
