Playing With / Game Over

Go To

Basic Trope: The screen which appears when you lose the game.

  • Straight:
    • Upon losing your last life (or your Hit Points reaching zero) in Tropers: The Game, a screen reading Game Over shows.
    • Your escort dies during the Escort Mission, bringing you to the Game Over screen.
    • ...And many other examples, which would be too long of a list to fit in the Playing With page.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Non-Standard Game Over
    • Player Death Is Dramatic
    • Unwinnable
    • Make one meager wrong move and the Game Over screen will pop up, forcing you to restart from square one.
    • There are a hundred of different Game Over screens coded for Tropers: The Game, each covering a different situation.
  • Downplayed: Death Is a Slap on the Wrist
  • Justified: It's always great to know when you screw up big time, after all.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: After several seconds, the Game Over screen disappears, and reveals the player-controlled protagonist alive and well. The game resumes.
  • Double Subverted: ...Or at least that's how it was programmed. However, a glitch makes it so you can't escape the fake game over screen anyways, forcing you to restart.
  • Zigzagged: The initial Game Over screen turns out to be fake, only for the game to suffer a bug that makes it so whenever you move your character after this fake screen appeared, they die again and the Game Over screen appears again, except each one of them are fake too, making the game loop on itself and become Unintentionally Unwinnable.
  • Parodied:
  • Averted:
    • There are no Game Over screens. When you lose all your lives, you are taken back to the main menu (or the start of the level if you're lucky) without any sort of message appearing.
    • You can't lose in Tropers: The Game.
  • Lampshaded: "Damniiiit, I lost the game!"
  • Enforced: "We've got to make players know when they've lost, after all."
  • Invoked:
    • Emperor Evulz kills the main protagonist, thus provoking the Game Over screen to appear.
    • Earn Your Bad Ending
  • Exploited: It's a Wonderful Failure
  • Discussed: "I'm certainly not doing that, or else this world isn't going to hesitate reminding me how much I messed up!"
  • Conversed: "Game Over screens can get frustrating, at times, don't you think?" "Especially when you have to restart the game from zero..."
  • Deconstructed: The Game Over screen causes the player to Rage Quit the game.
  • Reconstructed: The player looks up strategies online to figure out how to beat the part they could not beat.

Game Over.
