Basic Trope: An animal has their fur, feathers, etc. treated like a removable garment, sometimes with underwear on underneath.

  • Straight: Spot the Dog unzips his fur and takes it off like a suit before taking a bath.
  • Exaggerated: All animals in the setting can remove their natural coverings as if they were clothes.
  • Downplayed:
    • Spot the Dog isn't actually clothed, but sometimes puts on an extra layer of fur to keep warm on colder days.
    • Spot the dog is actually a hairless dog, and feels insecure without his fake fur.
    • Removable Animal Markings
  • Justified: Spot the Dog has been shaved and is wearing a fur suit until his real hair grows back.
  • Inverted: Clothing Appendage
  • Subverted: Spot the Dog gets ready for a bath and jumps right in without taking anything off.
  • Double Subverted: Spot the Dog realizes he forgot to undress and grumbles about having to dry his fur before getting back into the tub.
  • Parodied:
    • Spot the Dog loses his fur and wanders around with his hands over his crotch while mortified that he's nude in public.
    • There is a nudist club for animals where the patrons strip off their fur and wander around hairless.
  • Zig Zagged: Some animal characters can remove their follicles like clothing and some cannot.
  • Averted: No animals are able to have their fur removed and it is clearly acknowledged that they are not wearing any clothes at all.
  • Enforced: The creators want to do a nudity gag in a Funny Animal work where the characters are technically already unclothed.
  • Lampshaded: "You mean sheep could take off their wool like suits? I dread that the shearing business won't last long."
  • Invoked: Spot the Dog decides to take off his fur when the day gets too sweltering for him to stand.
  • Exploited: Fur dealers take advantage of animals' fur being their clothes by taking the poor creatures' pelts when they're not wearing them in order to make fur coats without having to kill the animals.
  • Defied: "You expect me to take off my fur and gross everybody out with my hairlessness? No way!"
  • Discussed: "Humans get to take off their coverings when they bathe or mate. Why can't we animals do the same?"
  • Conversed: "Animals' fur actually being their clothes. Unrealistic, but quite funny."
  • Implied: Animals aren't seen without their fur, but are shown hanging fur suits on coat hangers and clotheslines.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Because animals are able to remove their follicles whenever they want, businesses that involve shaving animals go bankrupt.
    • Spot the Dog's fur can come off because it is artificial and he lost his real fur permanently.
  • Reconstructed:
    • The shearers and shavers adapt by going into businesses that involve helping animals who have lost their removable fur.
    • Spot the Dog doesn't let his permanent baldness get him down and is grateful that at least he has a means to keep warm and look presentable.
  • Played For Laughs: A laundry mix-up results in a human's confusion at getting an animal's fur suit and an animal's confusion at getting a set of actual clothes.
  • Played For Drama: Poachers steal their targets' fur so they end up freezing to death due to not having a way to keep warm.

Back to Fur Is Clothing, where we animals can cool off by stripping ourselves of our natural coverings.
