Basic Trope: Forgiving someone in a sarcastic manner.

  • Straight: Bob forgives Alice for being so much of a dimwit who messes up things for the team.
  • Exaggerated: Bob forgives Alice for being such a stupid, thoughtless, and pathetic wreck.
  • Downplayed: Bob forgives Alice for asking a dumb question.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Backhanded Apology
  • Subverted: Bob mentions a time when Alice thought of an ingenious plan, indicating he doesn't see her as a complete idiot, and understands that everyone can have lapses in judgement.
  • Double Subverted: He then forgives Alice for being particularly prone to lapses in judgement.
  • Parodied: Alice believes Bob was being sincere about his forgiveness and thanks Bob for it, annoying him even more.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice appreciated Bob's sarcastic forgiveness, which moved Bob into sincerely forgiving her. That is until someone told Alice that Bob wasn't really forgiving to her until later on. Feeling lied and hurt, Alice confronts Bob about this and Bob apologized (sincerely, mind you) but Alice gave Bob a taste of his own medicine.
  • Averted: Bob forgives Alice sincerely (or at least grudgingly).
  • Enforced: Lip Lock greatly limited what Bob could be made to say. Of the 12 options, this was the only one that actually made sense, even if it changed him from Jerk with a Heart of Gold to Jerk with a Heart of Jerk.
  • Lampshaded: "I can see you've "forgiven" me, Bob. But I know you don't, so don't fool me."
  • Invoked: Bob is encouraged to get along with Alice, despite not particularly liking her. He decides to make an abrasive joke out of the fact that his friends think he'll genuinely forgive Alice.
  • Exploited: Alice doesn't grasp sarcasm and thinks that Bob has genuinely forgiven her for slipping up, so she is genuinely grateful to him. Bob is either annoyed by this or moved by Alice's gratitude.
  • Defied: Bob makes absolutely sure that Alice knows of his disapproval by saying a blatant insult instead.
  • Discussed: "Bob, you didn't have to be a sarcastic, Jerkass about it."
  • Conversed: "Man, Bob is such an asshole, if he could've said he hated Alice, he could've at least admit it."
