Go To

Basic Trope: A character finds themselves outside of their time period, and tries adjusting to their new one.

  • Straight: Bob has been stuck in another dimension for around 30 years. When he is brought back to the present day, he tries to learn about what's changed since he was gone.
  • Exaggerated: Bob has been frozen in ice for thousands of years.
  • Downplayed: Bob was in a coma for a few years.
  • Justified: Quite a lot can change over time.
  • Inverted: Bob, who contains all of universe inside of himself, vomits reality. In other words, the temporal water is out of the fish now
  • Subverted: When Bob claims he was stuck in another dimension for around 30 years, it turns out he was just kidding.
  • Double Subverted: He was actually stuck for 60 years.
  • Parodied: Bob takes an ordinary nap, and then wakes up and starts going on about how he's 10 hours in the FEEEEEEEWWWWWWCHEEEEEEER!!!
  • Zig Zagged:
  • Averted: No one is outside of their time period.
  • Enforced:
    • The writer of the series thinks that a character adjusting to a new time period would be an interesting plot point.
    • Bob hasn't been seen for a while, and this could explain where he potentially went to.
  • Lampshaded: "Do people still say greetings? I haven't been in this dimension for a really long time."
  • Invoked: Bob sent himself to another dimension, and decided he'd come back after 30 years to see what changed since then.
  • Exploited: Emperor Evulz is aware that Bob doesn't know much about what's happened in the last 30 years. He tries to beat Bob in a game of trivia about things that happened sometime after he left.
  • Defied: Bob travels to another dimension, but makes sure to come back very soon.
  • Discussed: "With how clueless Bob is to modern trends, you'd think he's actually from an earlier time period or something."
  • Conversed:
  • Deconstructed:
