Basic Trope: A character is attractive due to their abusive behavior.
- Straight: Summer abuses Danny in the most cruel way possible, yet Danny loves her for her nasty demeanor.
- Exaggerated: Summer loves to beat, torture, humiliate, and rape Danny, yet he still thinks she's sexy because of it.
- Downplayed: Summer is verbally abusive towards Danny, but Danny thinks it's cute.
- Justified: Summer's abuse is ineffective, such as her being built like a pin while Danny's a Scary Black Man, and still trying to best him in fights. Danny thinks it's hilarious.
- Inverted: Summer is considered attractive because she would never hurt her loved ones.

- People think Summer is attractive and a bit harsh, but when she gets a boyfriend and starts abusing him people overlook her attractiveness and start drifting away from her.
- Danny has been using Cut Himself Shaving-excuses since meeting Summer, a Satellite Character of his; turns out this is not because she is genuinely abusive, but because they enjoy hardcore sadomasochism, which isn't something he likes talking about in public.
- Summer seems like a Bastard Girlfriend at first or second glance, but she's actually more of a Trickster Girlfriend who actually does love and care for Danny and knows where the line is. When things get truly seriously she drops the act.

- Summer gushes over their 'sessions' in a way that makes it clear she's not acting during them. Whether Danny just finds that more exciting or doesn't know is up in the air.
- Parodied:Bob: "You're... Going to ask Summer out? Her last boyfriend broke up with her because she almost Cut His Heart Out with a Spoon!!"Danny: "That just makes me wanna tap that ass harder tonight!"
- Zig Zagged: Whether Summer's abusive behaviour is attractive, terrifying, or somewhere in-between depends on the writer.

- Summer is not abusive, and/or not in a relationship at all.
- Summer is abusive, but it's treated realistically.
- Enforced: "This show is popular among slapstick fans, but it's a romantic comedy. How do we reconcile the two..?"
- Lampshaded: "What's she got that I ain't got? ... Apart from an unhealthy and freaky obsession with getting back at you for an imagined offense?!"
- Invoked: Realizing that Danny is both a) interested in this aspect of her and b) not too fussed about Safe, Sane, and Consensual, Summer deliberately plays this aspect up.
- Exploited: Danny knows Summer is abusive and that he can take a lot of punishment, and deliberately enables her actions in order to build up enough evidence to convict her.
- Defied: Summer was always abrasive but promises to tone it down when she gets together with Danny.

- Summer actually finds Danny's masochistic behavior sickening, and beats him to relieve the discomfort that creates. Danny dislikes himself for being interested in Summer because of, rather than despite her abuse, and accepts the beatings as self-punishment. Ultimately, neither is really happy with the relationship, despite or perhaps even because they're both so willing to accept the abuse.
- Summer goes too far in abusing Danny, ending up killing him as result.
- Summer is portrayed as an Unsexy Sadist and Danny only stays with her because of all the stories he read with fetishized abusers, but the relationship is still depicted as toxic and unhealthy.
- Reconstructed: Turns out that Danny is Not Quite Dead. This causes Summer to cut back on abusing him, but she still does it (although not to the extent that she used to).
- Implied: Summer appears to be nice, but occasionally makes strange remarks that cause Danny to become unusually submissive.
