Basic Trope: An enemy in a video game is weak to or can only be killed by throwing a bomb into its mouth.
- Straight: Hulking lizard enemies called Boomguts can only be defeated if the player throws a bomb into its gaping mouth.
- Exaggerated:
- Feeding a Boomgut doesn't only kill it, but turns it into an involuntary Action Bomb whose explosion will kill other enemies for you.
- You have to feed an Action Bomb to a Boomgut in order to defeat it.
- Downplayed: Feeding it a bomb is a good way to One-Hit Kill it, but there's nothing stopping you from killing it with faster, more conventional weapons either.
- Justified: The scales of a Boomgut are too hard to penetrate with any of your conventional weapons, and its diet often consists of large bird eggs that they swallow whole... which are very similar in size and shape to your bombs.
- Inverted: Boomguts spit out lit bombs to try and kill you with.
- Subverted: Feeding a Boomgut a bomb doesn't harm it, since its saliva and internal fluids put out the fuse.
- Double Subverted: ... unless you cast a spell to feed it a fireball afterwards, reigniting the fuse and blowing it up from within.
- Parodied:
- Boomguts are an endangered species that are Too Stupid To Live, whose favorite snacks are bombs. Take out a bomb, and they'll beg you to feed it to them like a dog begging for a treat.
- You defeat Boomguts by chucking copies of terrible movies and video games at them.
- Zig-Zagged: Feeding a Boomgut a bomb kills them. But there's a tougher variant of them that appear later in the game that can eat bombs without taking any damage. Unless you feed them your upgraded Big, Bulky Bomb you unlocked some point after first encountering regular Boomguts. But there's an even tougher variant of Boomguts even later in the game that won't eat your bombs at all. Unless you attack its glowing tail that makes it open its mouth and throw a bomb in to kill it.
- Averted: Boomguts don't open their mouths wide enough to chuck bombs into and never eat them.
- Enforced: The area you first encounter Boomguts are where the player first unlocks the ability to use bombs. Introducing a unique enemy immune to other forms of damage that forces them to use their new toy only makes sense.
- Lampshaded: "You couldn't kill it, so you fed it a bomb? Jeez, isn't that a bit barbaric, blowing them up from the inside like that?"
- Invoked: Merchants selling bombs to The Hero apply lots of sauces and spices to them to make them as tasty and appealing as possible to a Boomgut.
- Exploited: Boomguts open their mouths to egg you into feeding it a bomb... only for it to catch the bomb in its mouth and spit it back at you right as its about to explode.
- Defied: Boomguts often have their mouths wide open, but if they see you with a bomb, they'll quickly shut it tight.
- Discussed: "I just unlocked these bombs, and if playing video games has taught me anything, it's that I'm gonna have to feed an enemy one of these to kill it."
- Conversed: "You know those enemies in games where you Feed It a Bomb to kill it? No living thing would be stupid enough to eat a live explosive like that."
