Basic Trope: The first scene of a work makes the work look like something different.

  • Straight: Alice and Bob: The Movie starts with what appears to be Alice and Bob finding a golden treasure chest in a cave. This is later revealed to be a different couple. Alice and Bob are actually in a city, and the movie is not about a search for the golden treasure chest. It's a romantic comedy.
  • Exaggerated: 50% of the movie is about Alice and Bob on a search for the golden treasure chest. Then it's revealed to be a dream, and the rest of the movie is just Alice and Bob's boring daily routine.
  • Downplayed: The first five seconds of the movie focuses on Alice and Bob in a cave looking at a golden treasure chest, with adventure music playing. It's then revealed they're actually on a subway, and the cave and the golden treasure chest is an advertisement for a bank.
  • Justified: The movie is about Alice and Bob getting tickets for the new installment of The Golden Treasure Quest, their favorite franchise for their honeymoon.
  • Inverted: ???
  • Subverted: The movie starts with what appears to be Alice and Bob finding a golden treasure chest in a cave, which is later revealed to be a different couple. The movie then focuses on Alice and Bob, setting it up to be a romantic comedy... then Alice and Bob decide to find another golden treasure chest.
  • Double Subverted: When they do find the golden treasure chest, however, it turns out to be another dream. The whole movie is a romantic comedy for real this time.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: The movie starts out as a normal romantic comedy.
  • Enforced: The creators wanted to fool their audience.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
