Basic Trope: A (usually unattractive) woman who hangs around with gay men.

  • Straight: Alice hangs around with Bob and Charles as much as she hangs around with other women.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice is around Bob and Charles constantly, following them around like a one-woman Goldfish Poop Gang.
    • Alice and her Girl Posse become a Goldfish Poop Gang to Bob and Charles and Squee constantly.
    • Alice has no other friends besides Bob and Charles, and doesn't seem to have any interest in finding any.
  • Downplayed: Sometimes Alice is hanging out with Bob and Charles, other times she's not.
  • Justified:
    • Alice hangs around with Bob and Charles, not because they are gay, but because they are her friends or relatives, and because she genuinely likes them for who they are.
    • Alice is very attractive and hangs out with gay men because she wants to have fun without getting propositioned.
    • Alice was friends with Bob and/or Charles before it turned out they were dating.
    • Alice is a Yaoi Fan Girl.
    • Alice is a lesbian or bisexual and/or transgender woman. Bob and Charles are her supportive close friends among the crowd of heteronormative society.
    • They are her coworkers.
    • Alice despises other women so she chooses to hang out with a group of gay men instead.
  • Inverted:
  • Gender-Inverted:
    • David is constantly seen with Alice and her girlfriend, Diana.
    • David hangs out with Bob and his boyfriend, Charles.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice does hang out with Bob and Charles, but she also hangs around with other people, too. Including her boyfriend, David. And she's attractive.
    • Bob and Charles are just pretending to be gay to get closer to Alice, who wishes for a threesome.
    • It turns out that "Alice" is just a Drag Queen persona of Alex, another gay guy in the group.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Alice finds out that David is actually a Jerkass, so she splits up with him and develops a more intense friendship with Bob and Charles since she believes that All the Good Men Are Gay.
    • But she's also a Yaoi Fangirl who likes to watch Bob and Charles make out.
    • Bob and Charles find out each other as their Closet Key.
    • Alice is a female drag queen, or later "Alex" comes out as a transgender woman while still befriending gay men, leading to this trope.
  • Parodied: Every time Alice befriends a man, it turns out he's gay.
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice acts alternately as Bob and Charles' best friend and as their worst enemy, to a point that confuses sometimes even the three of them.
  • Averted:
    • Alice has no gay male friends.
    • Alice has no friends, gay or straight, male or female.
    • Alice is totally indifferent towards gay people in general.
  • Enforced: "Every girl needs at least one gay guy friend!"
  • Lampshaded: "I'm Bob, and this is my boyfriend, Charles. Oh, and here's our number-one fan, Alice."
  • Invoked: Alice needs male friends, so she decides to hang out with Charles and Bob.
  • Exploited: Dave is a gay man looking for a boyfriend, and becomes friends with Alice in hopes of her hooking him up with Charles or Bob.
  • Defied:
    • Alice tries to find companionship among gay guys, but neither Bob nor Charles is interested in having a woman in their social circle.
    • Alice hangs out with Bob and Charles but when she finds out they're gay, she stops seeing them because she doesn't want to be associated with the stereotype.
  • Discussed:
Charles: What would you say if I told you Bob and I are lovers?
Alice: I do like you and Bob for who you are. Well, okay, I did kinda hope it'd go somewhere deeper with one of you. I just wasn't sure which I thought I liked more, but—
Charles: Bob and I are gay, Alice.
  • Conversed: "She does know they're gay, right?" "Oh, she knows, all right. She's probably with them because she's a perverted Yaoi Fangirl, and because she's too ugly and pathetic to get a real boyfriend."
  • Deconstructed: Alice hangs out with Bob and Charles because she's single and plain-looking and insecure, so they make her feel like she has two boyfriends at once. She may also be with them because All the Good Men Are Gay, and because she wishes they weren't.
  • Reconstructed: Alice stops feeling sorry for herself and puts more effort into her looks and gets a confidence boost. Enough so that she becomes less dependent on Bob and Charles, and maybe even finds herself a real boyfriend instead of just a fantasy.
  • Played for Laughs: Bob and Charles do everything in their power to avoid Alice, but she just keeps coming back no matter how far they go or how hard they try!
  • Played for Drama:
    • Bob and Charles play a role in helping Alice gain confidence in herself (see "Reconstructed").
    • Alice drops them as in "Defied", and Bob and Charles are confused. Can they mend their friendship with her? Do they even want to?
    • The Heteronormative Crusader tried to "fix" Bob and Charles by forcing them to date Alice, but Alice gains sympathetic feelings with Bob and Charles so she befriends them and tries to be supportive as she can.
  • Implied: Alice is friends with Bob and Charles and they are both Ambiguously Gay.
