Basic Trope: A species that is known to give birth to many offspring at an alarming rate.

  • Straight: The alien race, the Tropians, can give birth to hundreds of children in a single brood.
  • Exaggerated: Two Tropians end up populating the entire universe overnight.
  • Downplayed: The Tropians give birth to 50 children every year.
  • Justified: The Tropians are small and frequently being hunted down as food in their home planet, so Tropians adapted to produce this many childen so that their species may survive.
  • Inverted: Tropians take years to give birth to just one child.
  • Subverted: The Tropians lay hundreds of eggs at one time, but it turns out most of them are infertile and don't hatch.
  • Double Subverted: Turns out those eggs were fertile after all; it just took a while for them to hatch.
  • Parodied:
    • The Tropians literally explode to give birth to an absurd amount of children.
    • The Tropians are so fecund that they can easily out-breed inbred genes from their incestuous ancestors.
  • Zig Zagged: The amount of children born depends on various factors.
  • Averted: The Tropians give birth to one child at a realistic timespan.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "The reproductive rate of the Tropians is crazy!"
  • Invoked: Someone invented a fertility potion to make females give birth more frequently.
  • Exploited:
    • An Evil Overlord enslaves the Tropians and turns them into his mook army because he knows he'll never run out of troops with their explosive breeding rate.
    • The Morlocks use the Tropians as livestock, as their rapid breeding ensures a steady supply of meat.
  • Defied:
    • Gendercide.
    • The males and females were fenced off.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: The Tropians populate so quickly that their planet soon ran out of space and resources to sustain them all.
  • Reconstructed: The Tropians are a highly advanced race and have enough technology synthesize their own food and to disperse to other planets when their population grows too large, where they can further reproduce without any real problem.
  • Implied: When one Tropian visits another Tropian's house, the visitor says "Last time I was here, there wasn't so many children here..." but doesn't elaborate on the amount of children.
  • Played For Laughs: The Tropians' response to everything is to have a baby.
  • Played For Drama:
    • The Tropians quickly run out of resources.
    • The Troparians need to wage near-constant war to prevent them from being wiped out by overpopulation.
