Basic Trope: Everyone in a work is somehow related.
- Straight: Over the course of Tales of Troperia, Bob finds out The Lancer Alice is his half-sister, Big Bad Charles is his father, and Trickster Mentor Diana is his paternal aunt.
- Exaggerated: And that one innkeeper he once stayed with is his second cousin once removed. Who knew?
- Downplayed: Bob only discovers Alice is his half-sister over the course of Tales of Troperia.
- Justified:
- Diana kidnapped baby Bob from Charles and tried to raise him in ignorance of his evil heritage, but still surrounded by family.
- Tales of Troperia is about several royal and noble families. They are all related through various historical marriages.
- Inverted: Nobody in the series is related by blood; it seems that families don't exist in the story.
- Subverted: The old Charles family tree doesn't list Bob as his son or Alice as his daughter, thus they are not his children.
- Double Subverted: But the DNA test says that indeed they are.
- Parodied: Every character Bob meets on his journeys is somehow a blood relative of his.
- Zigzagged: There are many characters in Bob's journey that aren't related to him, but there are quite a few who are.
- Averted: No one is related to anyone.
- Enforced: "So, if Alice isn't Bob's love interest, she needs a reason to follow him on his quest. Let's make them brother and sister."
- Lampshaded:
- The Charles family tree is the size of a large room.
- "Hi Bob, my name is Ethan. You don't know this yet, but I'm your mother's sister's dog's cousin."
- Invoked: Charles, back in his younger days, Really Got Around, and thus has several dozen sons and daughters running around the town.
- Exploited: A con artist poses as a relative of Bob's, knowing he is related to much of the town, to scam him.
- Defied: We learn that, after a Groin Attack, Charles was left infertile long before Alice and Bob could have been born, so he could not be their father and Diana could not be their aunt.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Implied: We see the Charles family tree is quite large, and notice many familiar names around the tree.
