Basic Trope: Someone is only referred to by their title instead of their actual name.

  • Straight: Bob works in a bar, and the customers call him "Barkeep".
  • Exaggerated:
    • Even outside work, he's still called "Barkeep" by everyone, even his family, despite it being made very clear that is not his real name.
    • A Dog Named "Dog"
    • Everyone refers to one another as "Barkeep".
  • Downplayed: "Barkeep" is an Affectionate Nickname used by Bob's closest friends and patrons.
  • Justified:
    • Bob never really told his real name to anybody in the bar.
    • Bob does an exceptional work at the bar, so this nickname is a variant of the Red Baron.
    • The barkeep job has such as high turnover rate that no one bothers to remember the barkeep's name.
    • This is a universe where the power of real names applies.
    • The bar is at the airport's duty-free zone, so most of Bob's customers are merely waiting for their connecting flight(s) and regulars are just not a thing here.
    • Bob is so greatly feared that no one dares to use his real name.
  • Inverted: Everyone who is not a barkeep is referred to as "Barkeep".
  • Subverted: His Name Really Is "Barkeep"
  • Double Subverted: The barkeep's name seems to be "Barkeep", however the barkeep reveals that it was his old name, and he changed his name to something else.
  • Parodied: Bob is referred to as "Barkeep" so much that he frequently ends up forgetting his own name.
  • Zig Zagged: Customers call Bob "Barkeep" on particularly bright and cheerful days; On others, they call him by his real name.
  • Averted: Bob is referred to using his real name.
  • Enforced: Bob was introduced as a very minor barkeeper character with little to no relevance to the plot, however, his single appearance was enough to make him an unexpectedly popular character among the fans, which gave him the nickname "Barkeep". Content creators noticed this, and when the next season comes around, Bob ascends to supporting character status and is given an actual name, but is referred by the other main characters as "barkeep" as a Shout-Out to the fans.
  • Lampshaded: "Hey, how about we hang out at Barkeep's workplace?"
  • Invoked: Spell My Name with a "The"
  • Exploited: The bartender is a Human Alien with an unpronounceable name, so it's easier for the customers to refer to him as just "Barkeep".
  • Defied: "Yo, Bark-" "Do not. Call me. Like that. Ever. My name is Bob, Okay?"
  • Discussed: "So, uh, does any one of you guys actually know Barkeep's real name?"
  • Conversed: "This bartender's name can't be "Barkeep". Why hasn't any one of these people asked him about his actual name, anyways?"
  • Deconstructed: Bob is called "Barkeep" so much by people that he feels like he's never really out of his job, which takes its toll on his mind and causes him to burnout very quickly.
  • Played For Laughs: So many workers in the bar are referred to as "Barkeep" that when Alice calls Bob by this nickname, all the employees respond in unison to the call.

Oh, uh, that page? Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep". Don't know why.
