Playing With / Empathic Weapon

Go To

Basic: A weapon has its own mind and willpower.

  • Straight: When Alice and Lance begin to start their adventure they obtain a bow and sword respectively. Before they arrive at another town the duo learn their weapons have consciences of their own.
  • Exaggerated: Their weapons are more emotional than them.
  • Downplayed:
    • The connection is telepathic, so they can talk without needing to use a voice. Since they can't do that however they need a translater who can understand them.
    • Alice's bow and Lance's sword can't speak or talk with Telepathy, but they do float around on their own when they're traveling.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Alice's bow and Lance's sword are surprised to learn their wields lack any emotion or even thought process in the slightest.
  • Subverted:
    • At first their weapons seem to be able to communicate with them... Until Lance catches their psychic trickster friend Kade hiding in the bushes.
    • When the two hear a sound they know isn't from one of them they look at their weapons first to see if they were the cause. They aren't.
  • Double Subverted:
    • After Kade reveals himself Alice's bow is first to scold him, showing they have sapience after all.
    • It was White Mage Misty and her staff's heart-to-heart that were the cause of it.
  • Parioded: Alice and Lance see the weapons have rather odd facial details, but are still shocked when they begin to talk to them.
  • Averted: The bow and sword are a normal bow and sword.
  • Enforced: "We can't just let those voice actors go... Oh, I got it, rewrite the story so that the bow and sword are animate, thus will need voices."
  • Lampshaded: "Alice, you're saying this weapon can think and feel things? But it neither has a brain nor anything that remotely resembles a nervous system. That's ridiculous!" "Lance, don't question it. It just works like that."
  • Invoked: The Mentor made sure to enchant the weapons so that they could have a Companion Cube when times got rough.
  • Exploited: The Big Bad realizes Lance's sword has it's own mind, thus is able to experience Mind Control that could delay the others. He also throws in an axe with simiral powers for Big Guy Larry as a bonus.
  • Defied: Alice doesn't like the idea of having a talking bow and gets hers from elsewhere.
  • Implied: Alice and Lance's team are minor characters going by the "Elite Eight". They only have five members though...
  • Discussed:
Lance: "Wait a minute, I don't understand what going on here."
Alice: "So somehow you can hear us, and we can hear you?"
Alice's Bow: "Yes, and personally I'm relieved that I'm communicating with someone human for a change."
Lance's Sword: "Hey, wasn't I decent enough company?"
  • Conversed: Rachel and Ethan watch the series and comment on how Alice's bow, Lance's sword and Misty's staff almost feel like characters in their own right.
