Basic Trope: Elephants are shown to have excellent memory.
- Straight: Ed the Elephant is very good at remembering things.
- Exaggerated: It is literally impossible for Ed to forget things.
- Downplayed: Ed has a strong memory, but no outside of normal variance in this regard.
- Justified: Whether due to natural selection or a concentrated breeding effort, Ed's more forgetful ancestors did not have as much offspring, leading to the majority of elephants in the present having very good memory.
- Inverted: Ed has a very terrible memory and is constantly forgetting things.
- Zig-Zagged:
- There are a multitude of elephants on the show. Some have excellent memory, others don't.
- Ed only occasionally has his excellent memory; it all depends on which of the 10 writers were responsible for the episode.
- Exploited: Because Ed never forgets anything, he serves as a living archive of sorts by memorizing information that people want preserved or stored for later.
- Played for Laughs: Ed happens to be The Gadfly and uses his good memory to tease people about embarrassing stuff they did years ago.
- Implied: Ed is the most likely character to recall Noodle Incidents, some of which the other characters seem to have forgotten already.
