Basic Trope: A secondary school as big as university.

  • Straight: Sunset High school has many campuses, dorms and 2 stadiums
  • Exaggerated:
    • Sunset High school has its own elementary school, a middle school, a university, police, Fire Department, courts, even prisons.
    • An elementary school is like this.
  • Downplayed:
    • Sunset High is a bit bigger than what you might expect for a high school.
    • Sunset High has all of the features of a college but in one very large building.
    • A university is down the street from Sunset High. The high school sends over their higher-achieving students to take classes at the university, leading some students from both schools to joke that they're actually Sunset University High.
  • Justified:
    • It's a really expensive private school, with rich students coming from all around the world.
    • Sunset High School shares a campus with an actual university.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Sunset High appears to be like this on its website, but in reality, it's a wreck.
    • It is called "Sunset University High School." However, despite the name, the high school is the size of a normal high school. They just used the name to sound prestigious.
    • Later, it is revealed that Sunset High only leases a small fraction of the sprawling campus. The rest of the buildings are used by some other random company.
    • Sunset High is only one section of the vertical school that is the Sunset Educational Institute.
  • Double Subverted:
    • That actually turns out to be an elaborate prank on the freshmen.
    • The high school only seems the size of a normal high school. In reality, it is much much bigger by having the school Bigger on the Inside, most of the campus is underground, or the part what we assumed was the school is only one building in a much larger campus.
    • The random company owns the school or is associated with the school, and students take classes in those buildings or at least internships.
  • Parodied: Sunset High has 2 campuses, one fitting a university, and the other fitting a kindergarden. The action alternates between the two campuses, and students keep getting lost, regardless of location.
  • Zig Zagged: A high school starts out normal sized. However, over time as the school expands more buildings are built instead of adding on to the main building and it gets amenities more typical of colleges. However, due to budget constraints, most of the buildings are sold to other occupants and the remaining buildings are combined.
  • Averted: Sunset High is just an ordinary, one-building school.
  • Enforced: The author wanted a story set on a high school, but didn't want to limit their options of places the characters can go.
  • Lampshaded: "Why should any high school need this huge sprawling campus and all of those amenities."
  • Invoked: "In Sunset High's next expansion, we will construct separate buildings instead of adding on to the main building and we need much more amenities to attract students"
  • Exploited: A student has to pretend to be a college student for someone, and the fact that his school is this trope helps a lot.
  • Defied: "We're not adding this to our school. It is too expensive and very few high schools have it or can afford to add it."
  • Discussed: "Unlike what you see in some TV shows, most high schools are in 1 building and don't have nearly as many amenities as a college or university"
  • Conversed: "Fictional high schools in anime are always so much bigger than real life"
  • Implied: Sunset High is only described by a trustworthy foreign student, and it sounds pretty grand.
  • Deconstructed: Since the facilities are so big and fancy, the tuition is prohibitively expensive.
