Playing With / Ear Ache

• Basic Trope: A character's ear is harmed in a horrific manner.
• Straight: Dracone cuts Bob's ear with a machete.
  • Alice screams directly in Bob's ear, causing him extreme discomfort.
• Exaggerated: ...And his ear comes off.
  • Alice screams so loud that Bob's ear explodes.
• Downplayed:
  • Dracone bites Bob's ear.
  • Dracone ear claps Bob. While not necessarily harming the outer parts of the ear, it definitely gives Bob a good jolt.
• Justified: Dracone is a Sadist.
  • Bob is nearly deaf.
  • Alice is a brat, or doesn't realize how loud she is.
• Inverted: Bob puts his ear back on after losing it.

• Deconstructed: As a method of physical punishment, it's not as useful as it looks: leaves you too close to the enemy, the amount of pain is not debilitating enough to prevent counterattack, you and your target look like idiots for differing reasons (the "looks like admonishing a child" factor — target looks too Manchild-like and you look like some smothering mother), and if used to punish actual children is way too obviously child abuse and leaves too much evidence behind.
