Playing With / Drunk on Milk

Go To

Basic Trope: A character drinks a clearly non-alcoholic beverage and starts acting inebriated.

  • Straight: Bob drinks a glass of milk, and suddenly starts acting drunk.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob takes a small sip, and immediately starts staggering around as though he had had several shots of vodka.
    • Even the smell of milk gets Bob drunk.
    • Bob gets drunk on water.
  • Downplayed: Bob acts clumsy, but he may have just been sleepy.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • It turns out his drink was drugged.
    • While it may be a milky white in color, that ain't milk he's drinking.
    • It turns out that Bob was actually drinking an eggnog, which does involve alcohol.
  • Double Subverted:
    • But he is immune to the drug, and still acts drunk.
    • It's milk powdered water. Bob still acts drunk.
    • Bob is drinking a non-alcoholic variation of eggnog, but he's still acting drunk, for some reason.
  • Parodied: Milk gets banned and people start going to speakeasies to get their "Moo-Juice" fix.
  • Zig Zagged: (continued from Double Subverted) He was just pretending he was affected to draw out whoever tried to drug him. It turns out that he still is buzzed, but not nearly as much as he is pretending to be.
  • Averted:
    • Bob acts normal after drinking milk.
    • Bob drinks an actually alcoholic beverage and gets drunk.
  • Enforced:
    • The writers want to show Bob drinking and getting drunk, but can't get real alcohol past the Moral Guardians.
    • White was the cheapest color for editing the drinks into Frothy Mugs of Water in the dub.
  • Lampshaded: "How did you get like this from milk?" "I swear to drunk I'm not God!"
  • Invoked:
    • Bob wants to get drunk, but can't afford/ can't find alcohol, so he drinks milk.
    • Bob's wife, Alice, who is both The Trickster and The Shrink decides to mess up with him and convinces him he was drinking alcoholic beverages and lets the Placebo Effect do its work.
  • Exploited: Bob's friend Charlie wants him to get drunk, but Bob's The Teetotaler. So Charlie gets Bob drunk on milk.
  • Defied: Bob refuses to drink milk because he doesn't want to get drunk.
  • Discussed: "How did Bob get drunk on that?!"
  • Conversed: "I bet that if Bob took a swig of milk, he'd be drunk, like in that movie."
