Basic Trope: The Dragon becomes the new Big Bad after the previous Big Bad's defeat.
- Straight: After Emperor Evulz's defeat, his Dragon, General Drake, becomes the new Big Bad.
- Exaggerated: Evulz gets killed by The Hero and is replaced by General Drake, who is then killed by The Hero and replaced by The Brute Lieutenant Jason Bloodspiller (serving as Drake's Dragon), who decides to step down rather than be killed by The Hero.
- Downplayed: Drake takes Evulz's place after his defeat, but doesn't to do anything that villainous.
- Justified:
- Drake is Evulz's Number Two, and is the one in line to take charge should Evulz be killed.
- Drake's full name is Edward Draconis von Evulz, son to Edward Johnathan von Evulz.
- Drake would've been the Dragon-in-Chief, and Evulz recognized that, so the latter might as well start grooming the former into becoming this lest Drake decide he's being held back too much and stabs Evulz in the back.
- Inverted:
- Demoted to Dragon
- Lance takes over the role of the leader of the Five-Man Band after Hiro is killed by Evulz, with Sixth Ranger Herman becoming the new lancer.
- Big Good Bob pulls off a heroic sacrifice to bid the heroes some time to escape, after his death, his Number Two Alice takes the helm of becoming the new Big Good.
- Subverted:
- Drake looks like he's going to be the new Big Bad, but instead opts to revive Evulz.
- Drake tries to be the new Big Bad, but isn't as powerful as Evulz.
- Drake looks like he's going to be the new Big Bad, but is unceremoniously taken out by the Brick Joke
- Double Subverted:
- Parodied: General Drake declares himself the new Big Bad seconds after Evulz's defeat.
- Zig Zagged: General Drake tries to assume Evulz's position after his defeat, but Evulz's ghost also sticks around to haunt our heroes.
- Averted: General Drake becomes The Dragon to Lord Bad after Evulz's defeat.
- Enforced: "Our show has been renewed for another season. But we've already had the heroes defeat Evulz. We need a new Big Bad." "How about we make his second-in-command the new main villain?"
- Lampshaded: “I guess as general to Emperor Evulz, I should ASCEND to his position now that he is gone.”
- Invoked: "You may have defeated my master, but you have only enabled me to take his place."
- Exploited: Evulz knows he isn't strong enough to beat the heroes and allows himself to be killed so Drake can carry on his Evil Plan
- Defied: Rather than become the new Big Bad, General Drake instead decides to turn over a new leaf.
- Discussed: "We forgot to take out General Drake! I guess he's the new Big Bad now."
- Conversed: “I HAVE to take over Evulz’s place, we have at least another season to get through!’’’
- Deconstructed: General Drake struggles to live up to Emperor Evulz's legacy.
- Reconstructed: General Drake gathers the seven Mineral Macguffins and uses them to become more powerful than Evulz.
