Basic Trope: Unlockable Content that requires further conditions to access after being unlocked.
- Straight: After finishing Story Mode in Trope Quest, a message appears announcing that Alice has been unlocked as a playable character. However, to actually play as her, you need to spend 1000 Tropecoins in the shop.
- Exaggerated: To unlock Alice, you need to complete Story Mode to make a key appear in the shop, then buy it for 1000000 Tropecoins. However, the money cap is 999999 Tropecoins, so first you need to complete the Dragon's Nest Bonus Dungeon to unlock the Dragonhide Wallet that lets you hold more Tropecoins. Then you need to obtain enough Tropecoins to buy the key, which unlocks the Sealed Castle, yet another Bonus Dungeon. Your reward for completing the Sealed Castle is a treasure chest that contains the Crystal of Alice-Unlocking... which immediately breaks into 7 pieces that scatter all across the world. Once you find all the crystal pieces, you need to bring the crystal to the secret basement of the Sealed Castle and defeat Alice in a fight.
- Downplayed: You need to win Story Mode to make Alice appear in the shop, but once you do she only costs 10 Tropecoins to unlock.
- Justified: The Final Boss carried a chunk of Unobtainium with him, which can be used to make the Infinity +1 Sword, but the Ultimate Blacksmith who can work with the material still needs to be paid.
- Inverted:
- A message pops up saying "You can now purchase Alice as a playable character", but unlocking her costs 0 Tropecoins, so you don't really "buy" her
- There are multiple different conditions for unlocking Alice, but only one of them needs to be met.
- Subverted: You are immediately awarded 1000 Tropecoins when you see that Alice has been unlocked.
- Double Subverted: But you also have to get a MacGuffin to unlock Alice.
