Basic Trope: For one reason or another, a character doesn't want another look at them for too long.
- Straight:
- Alice gets scarred from an accident and doesn't want Bob to see her face.
- Bob is indulging in an embarrassing pastime, and Alice walks in on him.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice is turned into a monster, so she doesn't want Bob to see her like this.
- Alice doesn't even want people to see her for even a split second, or will become incredibly agitated.
- Downplayed: Alice gets a zit and begs Bob not to look.
- Justified:
- Alice is vain and fears Bob would like her less if she wasn't pretty.
- Alice's "new look" is frightening.
- Inverted: Alice wants Bob to look at her.
- Subverted:
- From what we see in the mirror, Alice is actually very pretty; she just wants to keep her appearance a surprise for a later event.
- Alice has horribly low self-esteem. She sees herself as ugly, while she's actually rather average or even beautiful.
- Double Subverted:
- ...Except for the fact that Alice is a narcissist: she sees herself in the mirror as she'd like to see herself, and that's what the audience sees first too. It turns out her appearance is a complete mess.
- Bob reassures her: She isn't ugly, by their society's standards. However, he himself has other standards, and does find her horrible to look at.
- Parodied: ???
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted: Alice is not ashamed of her appearance.
- Enforced: Alice must not be shown onscreen in her new appearance/character design at the moment ; it must be revealed next season, at the same time as the new batch of action figures...
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: "I know! If we kiss, everyone will look away in embarrassment."
- Defied: Bob thinks she's even prettier like this.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
