Basic Trope: A character gains super strength and has trouble controlling it for a while.

  • Straight: Bob goes through a Super-Empowering event and gains Super-Strength. For a while he has a tendency to break things when he tries to use them.
  • Exaggerated: Bob gets angry, stomps his foot, and causes a major earthquake.
  • Downplayed: Bob breaks a door handle off trying to open it, but then quickly adjusts.
  • Justified: Super strength doesn't come with the skill and restraint to use it.
  • Inverted: Bob gets Brought Down to Normal, and makes mistakes trying to use strength he no longer has.
  • Subverted: Bob tries to turn the knob to open a door. It does become loose afterwards, but it operates just fine.
  • Double Subverted: Never mind; the knob just fell off a minute later.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob adapts quickly to his new power.
  • Enforced: Having Bob go through such an ordeal makes him seem more human.
  • Lampshaded: "Darn it Bob, that's the third door you've broken this week!"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: Alice is Bob's archenemy and makes sure he encounters a lot of problems that brute force cannot solve elegantly.
  • Defied: Bob puts effort into learning to use his strength safely.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Bob gains super strength, and a mention is made later of needing to pay for a new door.
  • Deconstructed: Bob's enemies use the damage he causes against him and convince people that he is a threat to the public. He is forced to outwit the people he should be protecting to defeat the villains.
  • Reconstructed: Bob trains hard to master his strength enough that he won't cause any more damage, and it makes him much more able to fight.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob gets drunk, and causes damage to public property just by staggering around and falling onto things.
  • Played For Drama: Bob accidentally kills someone due to losing control of his super strength, and has to deal with the consequences and his own guilt for the rest of his life.
