Basic Trope: The child of a vampire and a human.

  • Straight: Alice is the daughter of Bob, a vampire, and Carol, a human. She's sensitive to sunlight but doesn't burn, has a faint reflection, and can cast very weak glamours.
  • Exaggerated: The entire main cast has one vampire parent.
  • Downplayed: Alice is a human who is distantly related to a vampire.
    • Most dhampir turn fully vampiric soon after or before birth. It is heavily implied the only evident half ones are genetic chimeras.
  • Justified: The curse of vampirism had Exact Words about damning the progenitor's blood and all who bear it to catch fire in the sun, feed upon blood like leaches, and be barren. Normal transformations involve transfusions after draining and are fully cursed blood. A non-cursed mother may still be fertile and the resulting offspring only have half of his cursed blood.
  • Inverted: Vampires and humans were created by the division of a progenitor species into two separate beings each.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob is suspected to have been a vampire, but it turns out that he's not.
    • Carol turns out to be a vampire as well.
    • As it turns out, Bob is not Alice's biological father (whether because Alice cheated, she got pregnant before getting together with Bob, or she used IVF, perhaps because Bob's vampirism made him infertile).
  • Double Subverted:
    • He used to be a vampire, and was one when he conceived Alice.
    • But she became a vampire after Alice was born.
    • The biological father is also a vampire.
  • Parodied: Alice's father is a trial lawyer and every single dhamphir angst trope is played straight only instead of drinking blood it is an urge to make money off of ethically and factually dubious lawsuits and a temptation to go to law school. Which is treated as if it is an unforgivable sin.
  • Zigzagged: It's a mystery who Alice's father is, but some of the suspects are vampires and others seem like they could be vampires.
  • Averted: Alice is either fully human or fully vampire.
  • Enforced: Rule of Cool.
  • Lampshaded: "How did you knock up Carol if you're undead?"
  • Invoked: Bob and Carol try to conceive.
  • Exploited: Alice uses her vampire parentage to intimidate people.
  • Defied: Bob and Carol decide not to have kids.
  • Discussed: "Are vampires capable of interbreeding with humans?"
  • Conversed: "When I learnt that this Alice character was half-vampire, I was afraid she was gonna be a Mary Sue, but she's not—she can't even cast a glamour on a baby."
  • Implied: Alice is sensitive to sunlight but otherwise seems like a normal human, and her mother Carol is completely normal. Her father Bob, on the other hand, never goes out in the daytime, never seems to sleep, and is somewhat cadaverous in appearance.
  • Deconstructed: Alice is Delicate and Sickly because her vampiric half regularly feeds upon her living half, which in turn causes it to attack her vampiric half.
  • Reconstructed: Alice later discovers that she can feed on blood despite a lack of fangs. Doing so also causes both halves to become at peace with each other and eventually prevents autoimmune issues.
  • Played for Laughs: Alice finds Bob an Amazingly Embarrassing Parent, what with him scaring away her new boyfriend, trying to bite the neighbours, etc.
  • Played for Drama:
  • Played for Horror: Alice is a threat to humanity, since she has all the strengths of a vampire but none of the weaknesses.
