Basic Trope: A dentist who enjoys hurting their patients.

  • Straight: Dr. Molarmasher relishes yanking out rotten teeth from his patients without using any anesthetic.
  • Exaggerated: In addition to deliberately making the extraction of rotten teeth as painful as possible, Dr. Molarmasher also likes to pull teeth that are perfectly healthy, loves using root canals and sometimes molests patients after gassing them into unconsciousness.
  • Downplayed: Dr. Molarmasher doesn't go out of his way to cause pain, but he's a jerk to his staff and can be quite callous to his patients.
  • Justified:
    • Dr. Molarmasher is a psycho who was somehow given a license to practice dentistry that he didn't earn.
    • Dr. Molarmasher was a good dentist originally, but underwent Sanity Slippage as a result of the stress of his job.
  • Inverted: Dr. Molarmasher is a dentist who is afraid of doing anything that would risk causing harm to the patient's teeth.
  • Subverted: Dr. Molarmasher is the subject of rumors that describe him as a sadist with a thing for inflicting dental torture, but the patient who sees him finds that they are just rumors and Dr. Molarmasher is very nice.
  • Double Subverted: After the checkup ends, Dr. Molarmasher expresses disappointment in the patient's teeth being healthy and how he was so looking forward to going to town on the patient's teeth.
  • Parodied: Dr. Molarmasher relishes inflicting pain on a new patient, but the patient reveals that his teeth are dentures.
  • Zig-Zagged: How careful and delicate Dr. Molarmasher's procedure is depends on what mood he's in or how he feels about his current patient.
  • Averted: All dentists shown are compassionate professionals who do their best at extracting decayed teeth without causing unnecessary pain.
  • Enforced: It's The Dentist Episode and it is required to show the audience a reason for the character to dread having to see the dentist.
  • Lampshaded: "How the hell does Dr. Molarmasher still have a license at this point?"
  • Invoked:
    • Dr. Molarmasher goes to dental school so he can get a license to practice dentistry and use his patients as an outlet for enacting his sadistic impulses.
    • Dr. Molarmasher's patient tries to enrage him so that he turns to more violent means of taking care of their teeth.
  • Exploited: Children are persuaded to cut back on eating sweets when their parents tell them that the local dentist especially likes hurting the teeth of children with cavities.
  • Defied: Anyone who takes the job of dentist is screened to make sure they're not in it just so they can get away with messing up people's teeth.
  • Discussed: "I don't know which Dr. Molarmasher would need more: an extra supply of Novacaine or a good lawyer."
  • Conversed: "Of course, every dentist we see on TV will turn out to be a depraved maniac with a fetish for destroying teeth."
  • Implied: We don't see any dentists onscreen, but every time someone enters the dentist's office, we hear screams of agony.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Dr. Molarmasher's tendency to pull teeth he's not supposed to results in him being up to his neck in malpractice suits and having his license revoked.
    • The reputation of dentists as violent and dangerous effects the reputation of friendly dentists, and people show distrust even towards friendly dentist.
  • Played For Laughs: Dr. Molarmasher's violence towards his patients is absolute overkill and somehow ends with his patients having perfect pearly-white teeth.

The Depraved Dentist is ready to give you a slow, painful root canal.
