Basic Trope: A crossover between two works that have very different age ratings and target demographics.
- Straight: The Troper Kids is a children's show that has a crossover with Murder Mystery, an adult show.
- Exaggerated: The Troper Kids is aimed at preschoolers, but it has a crossover with a hardcore Exploitation Film that's also promoted as a porno.
- Downplayed:
- The Troper Teens is a show aimed at teenagers that has a crossover with the much more adult-oriented Murder Mystery.
- There's no crossover necessarily, but a person known for more adult-oriented works has a "Sesame Street" Cred on The Troper Kids.
- Justified:
- The Troper Kids and Murder Mystery are already from the same franchise and share many of the same characters, despite their difference in age rating.
- Both the eponymous crime/mystery solvers of The Troper Kids and the Newark Police District 12 Homicide Department of Murder Mystery have gotten caught up in the same case.
- The Deconstructive Dark Parody of Troper Kids is framed by NPD12HD investigating their murder by the criminals they tried to expose. note
- It's a peripheral crossover during the Emmy Awards.
- Inverted: The Troper Teens, after it is cancelled, gets split into two spinoffs. One, The Troper Kids, is a spinoff about the teens as babies. The other, The Tropeslayer Squad, is about their reunion as adults, and features tons of gore.
- Subverted:
- What was advertised as a direct crossover turns out to be more akin to one show doing a Whole-Plot Reference to the other.
- Their appearance at the Emmy Awards note isn't canon to either show.
- Double Subverted: Still, there's a lot of discussion and complaining directed to the producers, who thought it was a good idea to greenlight an episode of a kids' show homaging an X-rated movie, of all plots.
- Parodied: An adult parody show crosses over The Troper Kids with an Animated Shock Comedy.
- Zig-Zagged: The Troper Kids regularly has crossovers, some with other kids shows, others with adult shows.
- Averted:
- There is no crossover.
- The crossover is between works of very similar (if not the same) age ratings.
- Enforced:
- Parental Bonus.
- The creators of The Troper Kids and Murder Mystery are either the same people, or are closely associated with each other, so despite the differences in their show's age ratings they decide to do a crossover.
- Murder Mystery had the right kind of characters to deconstructively analyze the workings of Troper Kids.
- Lampshaded: Characters from The Troper Kids break the fourth wall to complain that Murder Mystery's cast is scaring them.
- Invoked: One of the Troper Kids' enemies, Dr. Meanie, uses a reality breaking superweapon to summon villains from a gory video game, knowing the kids aren't used to such vile and powerful foes.
- Exploited: Villains from non-kid friendly works show up in the world of Troper Kids, and Dr. Meanie makes an alliance with them.
- Defied: Dr. Meanie attempts to bring villains from less kid-friendly works into the world to destroy the Troper Kids, but they manage to stop his machine from activating.
- Discussed: "This guy reminds me of the villains in those gory shows my mom doesn't let me watch."
- Conversed: "Alright! New episode of Fluffy Bunny Tales... Who is that hockey-masked guy with the sword covered in red kool aid?"
- Implied: A character is seen making a cameo on The Troper Kids that looks like a specific character from Murder Mystery, but it's left unclear.
- Played for Laughs: The Troper Kids crosses over with a show full of adult humour.
- Played for Drama: The character whose murder is being investigated was a minor recurring character on The Troper Kids.
- Played for Horror: It's a Dark Parody in which the characters from The Troper Kids are killed by a Serial Killer from Murder Mystery.
