Basic Trope: A character gives a threatening stare to another character.
- Straight: Bob glares at the resident Deadpan Snarker Charlie. This prompts a nervous Charlie to stop.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob glares at everyone. The look was so scary that it made them all instantly wet themselves in fear before they scattered as their legs could carry them.
- Everyone in the room glares at Charlie.
- Literal Mal de Ojo.
- Downplayed: While not really threatening, Bob gives Charlie a Disapproving Look to let him know that he isn't pleased with him.
- Justified: Charlie pushed Bob's Berserk Button.
- Inverted:
- Puppy-Dog Eyes
- Bob frightens Charlie by refusing to make eye contact.
- Charlie's greatest and most violent Berserk Button is people "looking at him funny". Bob tries his damnedest to not look at Charlie.
- Subverted:
- Bob starts turning to Charlie, but he turns back around before he could make the glare.
- Bob glares at Charlie, who is completely unaffected.
- Double Subverted:
- But when Charlie can't resist one last quip, that's when he gets it.
- The second time Bob glares at Charlie, he also reaches for the nearest thing he can use as a weapon. The glare makes clear to Charlie that it's not a bluff.
- Parodied:
- Bob doesn't even glare at Charlie but Charlie winces in fear as if Bob did.
- Bob's glare is so intense that it turns Charlie to stone.
- Charlie sees the glare and daydreams Bob shooting him dead with lasers or lightning bolts coming from his eyes.
- Zig-Zagged:
- Bob glares at people sometimes but not all the time.
- Bob is more tolerant of some people being wiseacres than he is of others.
- Averted: Bob doesn't glare at anyone.
- Enforced: ???
- Lampshaded: "It's always that look on your face to make me shut up."
- Invoked: Bob knows that Charlie is a badly-behaved jerk and makes sure to give him glares whenever he acts up.
- Exploited: While Bob is glaring at Charlie, Alice does things she doesn't want him to see her doing.
- Defied: "You gimme that funny look, and I'll cut ya," from a character tough and unstable enough to carry the threat out.
- Discussed: "Whenever Bob has that look on his face, that means he's gonna kill you."

- Deconstructed: Charlie doesn't notice that Bob is upset, or simply ignores Bob.
- Implied: Charlie says, "Did you see how Bob looked at me? Man, he was angry!"
