Basic Trope: The person loses their powers, which can be permanently reduced in effectiveness.

  • Straight: Bob depowers Alice from a powerful superhuman to a human.
  • Exaggerated: Alice is weakened so much, she can't use any of her five senses.
  • Downplayed: Alice is only 20% weaker due to Bob's botched up taking of her power.
  • Justified: Alice was undergoing extreme instability due to her powers. Had Bob failed to weaken her and taken her powers, she would have died.
  • Inverted: Alice is made even more powerful than before.
  • Subverted: Alice pretends to be depowered to put her in a better position to take out the Big Bad quickly and easily.
  • Double Subverted: Alice tries to use her powers and discovers she really did lose her powers.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: Some of Alice’s powers are gone, some are weakened, and some are the same.
  • Averted: Depowering Alice was never attempted.
  • Enforced: The viewers were tuning out thanks to the main character being an Invincible Hero, so the writers de-powered them to increase the drama and improve the ratings.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: The only way for the antagonist to defeat Alice is to depower her.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied:
    • Depowering Alice is not possible, since she transcends the concept of convenient seizure of her powers and abilities. She would rather find a method of being intentionally weaker without being in an overly vulnerable state or lose her abilities' full effectiveness when she wants or needs to be quite serious.
    • The antagonist is a Noble Demon who could depower Alice but sees it as dishonourable.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Alice isn’t seen for several episodes with the characters mentioning she was off with an injury from something she wouldn’t usually be injured by due to her powers.
