Basic Trope: The good guys' nation is successfully taken over by an evil dictatorship

  • Straight: Jorjak, a constitutional monarchy, and homeland of The Hero Bob, gets couped by the Big Bad (or some other evil) and establishs an evil dictatorship.
  • Exaggerated: The Utopian kingdom of Jorjak, a Utopian nation where evil and badness physically is impossible, aswell as the Heroic Bob's homeland, get's couped by the Big Bad and becomes a Dystopian nightmare
  • Downplayed: The Big Bad's supporters rise to some important positions in the government of Jorjak and manage to impose some oppressive laws, but are still forced to work after democratic principles and in a coalition with another party.
  • Justified: There has been an economic recession recently, and the Big Bad's forces, plotting to take over anyway, used this to sow fear and mistrust towards the democratic government in the people of Jorjak.
  • Inverted: The People's republic of Mersecia, an Authoritarian dictatorship which is the homeland of Alice, is couped by La RĂ©sistance, and a democratic republic is established
  • Subverted: When Bob takes a stroll through his country's capital, he suddenly sees tanks in the streets and people in neo-nazi uniforms around the government buildings. He fears a coup, but it is in fact just a reenactment of a historical coup.
  • Double Subverted: What was used to conceal a real coup.
  • Parodied: Jorjak is taken over by a group of talking ducks who force everyone to behave like a duck and converse by quacking the whole day.
  • Zig-Zagged: A Full-Circle Revolution happens several times in the work.
  • Averted:
    • Gorsoxistan, the homeland of the Magical Craig, keeps the same regime throughout the story.
    • There are no politics within the story.
  • Enforced: The work shall contain An Aesop why freedom and democracy are worth fighting for.
  • Lampshaded: "So now we are a dictatorship and we can do absolutely nothing about it. Like in the movies...well, I'm young, quite attractive, poor and distraught about this...does that mean this is my chance to become a hero?"
  • Invoked: Emperor Evulz and his forces attack the democratic government and force it to step down to install Emperor Evulz as a dictator instead.
  • Exploited: Darren, a Black Shirt, immediately joins the forces of the new regime to stay out of jail for previous hate crimes towards minorities.
  • Defied: Emperor Evulz tries to take over, but the army of Jorjak fights back with success.
  • Discussed: Two citizens of the neighboring nation of Kerekia see the coup on the news and chat about the takeover in Jorjak, what they think this means for the future, the relationship of their countries, fear for the well-being of their best friend in Jorjak and regret having planned their next vacation there and discuss the option to take their best friend from Jorjak in for a time.
  • Conversed: "A tyranny? Oh no, this means trouble for poor Bob..."
  • Deconstructed: Nobody likes a government they didn't elect themselves, a fairly large La RĂ©sistance gathers itself quickly, and nobody listens to their laws. They cannot keep themselves in power without giving liberties back to the people.
  • Reconstructed: Not many supporters doesn't necessarily mean not enough supporters. There are so many willing to snitch on people and to build up surveillance that everyone else just resignates over the fact of living under a tyranny.
  • Played for Laughs: A ultra-nationalist Omnicidal Maniac which openly states hatred towards everyone and her love of genocide, easily coups Jorjak, due to the fact that the Prime Minister was recently discovered eating pineapple pizza.
  • Played for Drama: The new rulers are neo-nazis who plot to kill all colored, queer and disabled people in the country, and Bob, a citizen of Jorjak, has a gay brother and a disabled sister for whose lives he has to fear now. Now he struggles to keep them all alive.
  • Played for Horror: The new government heavily relies on Crushing the Populace strategies and doesn't shy away from feeding their captured enemies to an Eldritch Abomination in public or hunting people for sport.
