Basic Trope: Too many rooms look exactly the same, either by appearance or design.

  • Straight:
  • Exaggerated:
    • Every area is just a Palette Swap of the first area.
    • Even the shops are identical to the NPC houses!
  • Downplayed:
    • The jungle contains heavily edited tiles from the plains, and you can only notice if you look hard enough.
    • There are 3-4 main house layouts used throughout the game.
  • Justified:
    • Plains and jungles both have grass in them, after all.
    • The game takes place in a Cut-and-Paste Suburb.
    • The entire game takes place in a single building where every level is a different floor, all of which share the same floor plan.
    • The city is the seat of a totalitarian regime that enforces "unity" and "equality" with a standardized blueprint required for all residential buildings.
  • Inverted: Every room in the game is procedurally generated, but once you leave and re-enter a room, you'll find yourself somewhere completely different.
  • Subverted: After the first part of the game, the environment starts getting more original.
  • Double Subverted: It looks like you're finally free from the same few layouts and graphics... and then you find yourself in a town with houses identical to those in the first few areas.
  • Parodied: Every building in the game has the exact same as the player's house. Even the Big Bad's castle, which has random floor tiles dug out that he pretends is "lava". (He politely asks you not to step onto them.)
  • Zig-Zagged: Some towns have the same houses, others are varied.
  • Averted: Every area is distinct, with no two looking the same.
  • Enforced: There's just not that much memory space on the cartridge; a lot of stuff has to be reused, some parts more cleverly than others.
  • Lampshaded: "Whoever owns this dungeon needs to hire an interior designer. These rooms all look the same!"
  • Invoked: The creator of the dungeons in Charlie's Quest purposefully made every room look identical in order to confuse adventurers.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
