- Alice is very affectionate or a little kid.
- Alice is touch-starved.

- Alice doesn't like receiving hugs or giving hugs.
- Subverted: Alice is actually feigning affectionate behavior as part of a setup.
- Double Subverted: But she then receives the idea of affection in friendship and becomes cuddly.

- Alice lists cuddling several times on her list of hobbies.
- Alice is a would-be Fluffy Tamer except her "fluffies" never reciprocate. Despite the regular maimings, she never learns.

- Alice sometimes loves giving hugs, other times Hates Being Touched depending on her mood.
- Alice likes to cuddle some people/things, but not others.

- Alice discovers her recipient's liking to hugs, and uses it to befriend them.
- Bob knows Alices loves a hug, and uses it to borrow her wallet.
- Defied: Alice may be affectionate, but she tries not to start a hug.
- Discussed: "Why does Alice cuddle so much? Sometimes people don't like cuddles."
- Conversed: "Some characters are just too cuddly."

- Alice unwittingly hugs an ill person who is contaminated and becomes ill as well.
