Basic Trope: Elements in the background which move or are interactive look distinctly different from the rest.

  • Straight: Bob is running and needs a place to hide. He finds some bushes, one of them is light colored and plain while the others are darker and have textures. The one he hides in is the light colored one.
  • Exaggerated: The background is a horribly thrown in stock photo and the bush is a bunch of lime green circles.
  • Downplayed: All of the bushes are the same colour, but the one Bob hides behind has a thicker outline and may feature more detailed lines than the others.
  • Justified:
    • Bob was closest to the green bush.
    • The scene is animated from Bob's point of view, meaning things are less detailed the less he pays attention to them. The bush looks different from the rest of the background because he doesn't have time to take in the view and is focusing on just finding somewhere to hide.
  • Inverted: Almost all the bushes in the scene are light green and well defined, except one which is darker. Bob hides somewhere in the light green part rather than behind the one dark bush.
  • Subverted: Bob hides in one of the darker bushes with textures.
  • Double Subverted: The bush becomes plain light green in the next scene.
  • Parodied: Someone near the bushes notices Bob is looking for a place to hide, so they paint a bush for him to hide.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • In some occasions, the interactable objects are animated the same way as the non-interactable ones. In other occasions, the interactables are different.
  • Averted: Everything is animated in the same way, making it unpredictable to know which object will be used.
  • Enforced:
    • The designers want to spend less time animating the interactable objects.
    • Bob is in a Point-and-Click Game; after test audiences complained about the game's obtuseness, the artists decided to render objects Bob can interact differently so the audience wouldn't have to do as much Pixel Hunting.
  • Lampshaded: "Next time, I should hide on the darker bushes. These light ones are too obvious for them to know i'm here".
  • Invoked: The creators deliberately make Troperion Zero's CGI stand out to make him look otherworldly.
  • Defied: The bushes are spiky, so Bob acknowledges this and leaves them behind.
  • Discussed: "I love light bushes. They are the best places to hide for me."
  • Conversed: "Wow, I wonder if he will hide on that light bush or not. It totally doesn't stand out like a sore thumb."
  • Deconstructed: The people who were hunting Bob find him because they notice the light bush, and shoot him.
  • Reconstructed: Bob survives and trains to become a master in disguising and hiding, and nobody is able to find him so easily again.
  • Played For Laughs: Whereas the bush Bob hides behind is beautifully animated, everything else including Bob is painfully (and deliberately) Off-Model in that shot. (Or vice versa)
