Basic Trope: A character asks a question about the thing they're about to reveal before revealing.

  • Straight: Bob bought himself a Cool Car and tells Alice how great his new car is. When Alice notice someone breaking into a car behind Bob in the distances, she asks Bob to describe his car's appearance again. After Bob describes his car again and ask Alice why she would ask that, she reveals someone is trying to steal his car.
  • Exaggerated: Alice asks Bob specific details about his car: what color is the car, what type of car it is, where he parked it, did he have passenger in his car, is someone trying to fix his car, what year was his car made, etc. After Bob answers and confirms Alice's questions, she now reveals someone is trying to steal his car.
  • Downplayed: Alice points to Bob's car and asks if it's his. After he confirms, she points out that it looks like someone's trying to steal it.
  • Justified:
    • Bob only described his car to Alice and she hasn't physically seen it yet.
    • Alice isn't sure if the person who's breaking into Bob's car is a friend of Bob or a mechanic.
  • Inverted: Alice tells Bob that someone's trying to steal his car, then asks Bob to describe his car to confirm that she's not mistaken.
  • Subverted: Alice asks Bob if his new car is red, but he tells her it's blue and Alice moves on.
  • Double Subverted: After the car thief hardwires the red car and drives off, the thief crashes into Bob's blue car and Alice asks Bob to remind her what color his car was again and then tells him what happen.
  • Parodied: When Alice asks about the car, she goes into excruciating detail, asking about a ton of completely irrelevant details.
  • Zig Zagged: But the blue car the thief crashed into was actually not Bob's car, just another car that looks similar.
  • Averted: Alice straight up tells Bob that someone is trying to steal his car.
  • Enforced: The Cool Car is too expensive for the show's budget to be shown, this neatly circumvents that problem and allows the show to maintain status quo
  • Lampshaded: "If you're asking me questions, I feel like something bad is happening right now."
  • Invoked: Alice tells Bob that someone's trying to steal his car. A skeptical Bob asks her if she's sure, so she asks him to describe his car.
  • Exploited: Alice and the car thief are actually working together to steal Bob's car. While the thief is trying to locate Bob's car, Alice asks Bob to describe his car again so she can signal the thief to the car he needs to steal. And once the thief does steal the car, she reveals it to Bob to mock him.
  • Defied: Alice tries to ask Bob a quick question about his car, but Bob tells Alice to get to the point and asks her if something is happening to his car.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Answering Alice's questions wastes valuable time Bob could have spent stopping the thief, resulting in his car being stolen.
  • Reconstructed: However, when the police arrive, Alice is able to give a much more accurate witness report because Bob answered her questions, which helps the police find and recover the car.

It's cool with you if I post a link to Confirm Before Reveal, right? Just checking.
