Basic Trope: A radio station that is located at or affiliated with a college or university.

  • Straight: Troperville State University has a radio station located either on campus or within a short drive of it. It's either owned by or affiliated with the university. It broadcasts a morning news (including university or club-related announcements) as well as a Talk Show from 5-9 AM, music or even radio dramas from 9 AM-noon, a news broadcast from 12-1 PM, some variety of talk shows, music, or other content during the afternoon hours, another newscast from 5-7 PM, more talk shows/music/dramas/news/whatever else until 11 PM, a nighttime newscast until midnight, and a late-night talk show until 2 AM. The remaining early-morning hours are filled with a music playlist, or just plain old Dead Air, or else handed over to radio Infomercials, religious programming, etc.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Anyone can be on the radio station, no matter what kind of content they provide, or even if they're students/faculty/staff at TSU.
    • The station can be accessed from the Internet, anywhere...and not just by TSU students/faculty/staff. (Bonus points if there's a mobile app, too!)
    • TSU has a TV station and a newspaper.
  • Downplayed: TSU has a 24-hour news broadcast, no music or other content. And the students don't get to do editorial or other talk shows.
  • Justified:
    • Having a schoolwide radio station gives Communications majors a chance to get some hands-on experience.
    • It lets students share opinions and express themselves.
    • It keeps students informed of events on (and off) campus, school clubs, and what's on the menu in the dining hall; there will be fish and chips on Friday.
    • It gives a welcome break from studying, or lets them enjoy music or other content while they study.
    • It keeps students informed of goings-on in the wider world.
  • Inverted: Everyone in the local area has a radio station, except the college.
  • Subverted: Although there are both a university and a radio station located in Troperville, they are not affiliated with each other in any way.
  • Double Subverted: The communications department takes its students on a tour there, and may produce a radio show. Additionally, many of the communications students get jobs or internships there.
  • Parodied:
    • Every show features a Dumbass DJ or Shock Jock.
    • Or is broadcast by a Surfer Dude and/or Valley Girl.
    • Alternatively, the programming on the station is so eclectic that the "study music" block consists of Death Metal, synth-pop, Gangsta Rap, and a John Cage composition all at the same time, and is immediately followed by a progressive news broadcast.
    • The station has a broadcasting range of 500 feet.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: TSU offers no radio or TV station, or Web Video broadcast.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "This is 88.9 KFTU, a service of Troperville State University..."
  • Invoked: TSU builds or buys a radio tower for its students.
  • Exploited: Students use it as a forum to express controversial opinions, harass other students, complain about their professors, etc.
  • Defied: TSU decides that they have No Budget for a radio station, or don't want to deal with potentially controversial content, so they don't build or affiliate with a radio station.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Is it just me, or do all the DJs sound like they're in their late-teens/early-twenties?"
  • Implied: Several characters mention a radio station that ends in "U", but the station is never heard.*
